jlong007 6 Posted February 4, 2014 Hello All, I just had my surgery last night. They keep checking my blood pressure and it's at 145/90 around there. Would just like to know if any of you experienced high blood pressure day after surgery and when it got better, Thank you
Teachamy 1,042 Posted February 4, 2014 No, i didn't but I imagine it could your body's way of dealing with the trauma of the surgery. Have you been hypertensive before? Do they think they may want to treat it with meds?
Bufflehead 6,358 Posted February 4, 2014 I had high blood pressure starting a couple of days after surgery, when I stopped the narcotic painkillers. My doctor said it was probably due to my increased pain level -- pain can cause HBP. Mine went down to normal within a week. Good luck to you!
UKHEIDI 22 Posted February 4, 2014 Hi I had surgery on 21.1.14 and my blood pressure which was fine before surgery was sky high after. Doctors said a response to pain and anaesthetic. Two weeks after, it is still higher than it was. I had stitches out today and doctor noted till a bit high but wasn't worried ( 144/85)and will continue to monitor
jlong007 6 Posted February 4, 2014 I was never hypertensive before. Nurses say it's a compilation of meds that are given and pain from the surgery
Blondiee 278 Posted February 4, 2014 (edited) I had surgery on 12-05-13, my blood pressure was fine prior to surgery but was high afterwards. They were using a small cuff to check my pressure initially. When they switched to a larger cuff my blood pressure was back to normal. NMJG 1,266 Posted February 4, 2014 Your body is under a lot of stress. Pain will also raise blood pressure. However, I would keep an eye on it after you are released to make sure it goes back down.
Sassy Pants1 186 Posted February 4, 2014 Yes, this happened to me. But they gave me something through the IV after surgery and it was back under control before I left the hospital the next morning.
