Chia seeds

Recommended Posts

Hi my sleeve family, I am 2 1/2 years out and 162lbs down. Well I was reading Woman's World. They had a shake that could melt 63 lbs from your middle. The shake has these chia seeds in them along with whey power, fruit, and almond milk. I just wanted to know have anyone tried these chia seeds. I did read about them and my biggest concern the is will stretch my new stomach. because I still eat small portion after all this time.

Chi's seeds absorb liquid and turn gelatin-ish, I know of a recipe to make "pudding" by mixing milk and chia seeds with flavoring (fruit, chocolate, etc.) and letting it sit until it firms. I bet they are recommending it because this Gelatin might make someone feel full, I would think this isn't good for avoiding sleeve stretch.

That being said, Women's World is not the best diet advice, they always have different diets each month and some make crazy claims like " lose 60 lbs from your belly!", it just seems like they are trying take advantage of prople who want lose weight.

Maybe contacting your nut to discuss your current weight loss effort would be helpful?

If we could loose 60 pounds from our bellies by eating chia seed shakes, we wouldn't have needed weight loss surgery. I am banded, so I can't speak to your particular concern, but I do mix chia seeds into my morning Protein shake, but I do it for their nutritional value, not for weight loss (that is what the surgery was for). They are high in Protein, Fiber, potassium and Calcium, all things that our bodies need.

FYI, they will turn your shake very thick, and they are also supposed to help moderate sugar spikes.

Hi. I eat chia on occasion. It does swell with liquid so I keep it on the minimal. Good alternative is hemp hearts. I do a similar shake adding Protein Powder of course.

If you want to try them for their health benefits, you can mix them into a shake or gravies, into puddings, you can also grind them and use them as a flour substitute. I wouldn't use them specifically for weight loss however - I don't know how well they would work for that with our sleeves.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
