All WLS Supplements Are Just Too sweet

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

It's probably my taste buds changed but omg...all the Protein Shakes and even the chewable vitamins are just too sweet for me...what happened?...I used to have such a sweet tooth and I'm not even a week out yet.

But, on a serious note...sweets things are what got a lot of us here in the first place. Don't you think these companies should be marketing their products to suit all tastes or at least give us the WLS post op patient the choice to add sweet if we want to or need to.

I said to my husband tonight...I know before I would not have turned down a sweet treat before, but that last shake is so sweet I'd rather go without...I would have been happier if it had tasted like Mac and cheese or just plain old Soup.< /p>

Xxx

It's very common for things to be too sweet post op. I wasn't even able to drink crystal light right away. My taste buds have gotten better and I can now handle crystal light and most Protein Shakes so it may get better for you too! I drank Unjury chicken Soup when that happened to me, even though I wasn't too fond of it. ;)

I was the same way post surgery. My taste buds are still different. I no longer crave or even like things sweet and I was a confirmed sweet a holic. I have not tested it but anytime I even smell baked goods it grosses me out. God willing this stays. :)

My taste buds totally changed !!! I never was a sweet tooth person, I was more the chip type of girl. Now if I never had another chip I would be fine but I want sweets !! The fat free sugar free ice pops satisfy my sweet tooth.

I went through this phase as well, even Crystal Light was either too sweet or way to sour. Same goes for Creamers for my coffee, I had to switch to Decaf because the regular coffee soured my stomach. Im finding that its not getting any easier to find a Protein shake that is not sweet enough, most have that after taste of stevia ick! and I am 3 months post op. Did anyone else have these changes?

My tastebuds have changed as well. Everytime I swing my by local GNC they give me samples of stuff to try. I found that I could tolerate the "Jay Robb" brand of protien powder. I mix it with 12oz of soy milk. I also can't stop eating green olives.< /p>

I had such a problem with the sweet Protein Shakes that I use half flavored Protein Powder and half unflavored. I can't use just straight flavored Protein powder. I use Unjury. I also do better with smoothies than shakes. Something about the slushy frozen consistency works better for me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
