Incsision sites itchy and puffy

Recommended Posts

My incision sites are itchy and puffy. I still have steri strips on 3 of them because they wouldn't come off yet. I'm more puffy underneath those. I put A&D on them and that is what made them puffy... I'm not usually allergic to A&D. The itching is insane! Should I be worried!?

Mine are itching like crazy, too! I think it means they are healing. I don't think there's much you can do. Try not to scratch. I know, better said than done! Lol

I was told to not put anything on the incisions. Just to keep them dry, and let them heal. I would call your doctor's office & ask about the A&D ointment. You may need to gently wash it off.

My discharge instructions said I can put A&D

About 7 days post op my incisions became very itchy and puffy. Apparently I'm allergic to steri strips. At 10 days I was told to take off the strips even though they weren't coming off on their own. The dr said to use cortizone cream, but it never really helped. That lasted at least 2 weeks then the allergy finally left my system. Call your doctor, but it's probably just an allergic reaction. Good luck!

Not sure where you live but here in northeast it is an itchy time of year -- do you have a humidifier going? I used Vitamin E oil -- trader joes makes one that is not too sticky. Good luck! Happy for you that you are on the other side.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
