Getting yelled at for losing "too much"

Recommended Posts

I had my 2nd post op appointment today and it was with a NUT and she was upset with me, she said I was losing too much weight too fast. Since my last appointment which was about a week after my surgery I had lost 20 pounds. She said I needed to eat more, that I wasn't eating enough and that is why I'm losing too much weight. This is insane, I have never had anyone tell me that. I feel great for the most part and I feel like I'm eating enough. I eat 3 to 4 small meals a day and I'm getting in anywhere from 500 to 700 calories a day, when I feel satisfied I stop eating, even if I am not finished with my meal. Before surgery I would eat until I felt stuffed, I'm trying hard not to do that anymore. I am only (almost) 7 weeks out from surgery. Luckily I don't need to see her next month when I go back, I see a medical doctor. When I go for my 3 month visit, who do I see? Please tell me NOT a NUT!!

Oh and she told me the reason for me feeling light headed when I get out of the tub is because I'm not getting enough Water. I thought I was getting in plenty of water but I'm going to work on trying to get more in and see if that helps at all.

The nutritionist and the surgeon have much different views. If you're concerned, called your surgeon. If the nutritionist is part of the surgeon's practice, then I would definitely call the surgeon and let him/her know what the NUT said. It sounds like, from what you've said, you're doing what you're supposed to be doing. Just keep up the good work!

R u logging what u r eating. I use myfitnesspal. If u r, u can show your nut or doc what u typically est.. Since I have been logging what I eat., I know I am getting enough Protein and calories.. I am 8 weeks out and my target protein is 65-70 grams and 800 calories. Don't let the nut get u upset if u r following the food protocol.

Ok, I am not being diplomatic here. Your NUT sounds NUTS! It sounds like you're eating exactly what you should be. Congratulations on your loss!

You saw your NUT at 1 week post op and again at 7 weeks post op, and between those visits you lost 20 lbs, right? Well, 20 lbs in 6 weeks sounds GREAT from what I've read on this forum! I didn't lose that quickly, but I would have been thrilled if I had! My understanding is that people with a higher BMI tend to lose more quickly.

As long as you feel well - lots of energy, etc. - and you're following the plan, just keep on keepin' on! The pounds do drop more slowly as time goes on, so make the most of this rapid loss period.

Always follow your surgeons plan. Tell the NUT to F- off.

Sorry, can you tell I'm not a fan of NUTs??

Increasing my B12 (surgeons recommendations) helped with that lightheaded feeling after surgery.

Oh..I've had run ins with one of the nuts in my group. Last time I was there, was for my 3 month check up.

She told me to stop eating greek yogurt and beef Jerky..and to go back to the shakes abd skim milk. When its noted that I'm lactose intolerant and don't want to take the pills for it.

Then she told me not to trust myfitnesspal and their database. Even after I told her I don't eat it unless I can check the stats beforehand.

All of this and at that point, I had lost a staggering 38% of my excess starting weight..at 3 months. I was doing well and getting most Protein from real food.

Needless to say I called my nurse and informed her what was communicated to me. That was taking several giant steps back words and I wasn't having it. I told her that I would continue on with what she had approved already and follow what my book said. She agreed.

Then I asked the front desk to note in my file that I will not see that particular lady.

:)

I'd encourage you to speak with your surgeon and ask her/him what her opinion is. It's important you get this cleared up so you're truly comfortable that your doing all the right things, or understand where the nut is coming from.

You will feel light headed if you've been in a hot bath/spa and get up if you are dehydrated, or if your blood pressure is low...

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.
