So I have had my psch eval, my weight records sent to my surgeon, and an appt with the nutritionist. My ins requires a 3 month doctor monitored weight loss program, which I am now undergoing- so far it is at my surgeon's office, and they are having me start to make small changes in preparation for the surgery (getting off carbonated beverages, more walking, etc). If all goes wellI shouldbe sleeved some time in April. But I am nervous... I have failed on soooo many diets before, and we are paying about 11K out of pocket for this... what if it does not work? Or what if it works then I gain it all back? Hubby waxes hot and cold about the surgery. On one hand, he loves me and supports me on doing what it takes to have a healthier, longer life. On the other hand, he has told me he is afraid I wont be able to stick with it and lose the weight... I can't blame him, we have been married for 18 years so he is well aware olf my history. But before this, i was feeling so confident and excited, now doubts are creeping in. Has anyone else been in my shoes and went ahead and did the surgery? Were you successful? Did you have any regrets? Thanks so much for your help, I am glad to have found these forums- people here seem to be incredibly supportive!

Beth

My insurance covered almost all of my surgery and pre-op stuff...so that wasn't a factor for me; surgery is scary no matter what it is, and that is probably one of your concerns, even if it's in the back of your head.

This is a "tool"...not a diet...a new way of looking at food, as

sustenance only... we are addicted to food, so like any other addiction, we have to work on it day by day...one day at a time... but with the tool of WLS, you will find yourself being more successful.

I have found that monthly group meetings help me with the "accountability" factor I needed... but you will find what works best for you...good luck... I had the surgery and have not looked back, have not regretted one moment (even tho I'm on a stall now)...

It's very natural to be nervous. I was hoping I made the right decision right before. If you are interested, I have a blog www.ajourneyworthtaking51.blogspot.com It describes the process I went through. I hope this helps you. Good luck!!

I am only 5 weeks out and am not dealing with real food yet, but I believe that this new tool is helping me to change my relationship with food. For one thing, I used to eat a large qty of good tasting food to anesthitize my feelings. Now, more than a small amount will cause pain. I don't think I will ever see food the same way again.

Beth I haven't had my surgery yet as it's not until March but I understand ur concerns. I've been married for 22 years and my husband has been in my ear about this is irreversible and so many what if's. We surf the net together and as I've become more confident in knowing I've made the best decision in the interest of myself and my health he has settled down a lot. I would say the first thing is changing our mind and thoughts we have about ourselves. Forgive yourself for past failures and move on! Today is a new day and your headed to a new you. Yes we may have failed at other diets in the past which to me is why we have sought the help of this tool (VSG)! It's not magically but from what I've seen it's very helpful if we work it in the right way by making better choices and moving more...you got this you can do this and we r all here to support each other every step of the way one day one meal at a time.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
