juliegeraci 7 Posted March 26, 2007 I am on Lexapro combined with Wellbutrin. The Lexapro wasn't enough for me. I am depressed with bipolar. The Lexapro alone may help you but it wasn't enough for me. Good luck.

Each one reaches some specific area of the brain, I guess. My husband only takes Lexapro and he and I are fine about using itl Pay attention to your body....you'll know. And if you can, get outside and move around in the sunlight. It can help. Jo Ann
rms78645 0 Posted March 26, 2007 I felt like a zombie also. I also had a tightening of my jaw muscles, like I chewed bazooka bubblegum for 4 days straight. My girlfriend and a similar reaction (the jaw one) so I stopped taking it. I tried again a few weeks ago and the same thing happened. So I didn't continue. cherg 2 Posted March 26, 2007 Thanks, I have been looking around the site it seems that eveyone has different reactions and I don't think there is any way to tell how I react axcept to try it out. It just s*cks well you feel like sh*it to try something and have it make you feel worse or no better. Not only this but I have this eating disorder as well so I was gonna try to aee if any depression medication can help with the eating problem then I can kill 2 birds with 1 stone. If that makes any sense.
ralheit 1 Posted March 26, 2007 I take lexapro and have no problems with it whatsoever. I used to be on zoloft, but my doctor changed me over a few years ago and I do just fine with it.
TerriDoodle 6 Posted March 27, 2007 I am new to antidepressant therapy and my doc started me on Lexapro. I feel like a brand new human being. It has worked wonders for me.
travelgirl 3 Posted March 27, 2007 My doc switched me from Paxil 20 mg to Lexapro 10 mg. I was feeling dizzy a lot, so he had me cut back to 5 mg/day, and I do fine on it.
kyethra 0 Posted March 27, 2007 50mg is a fairly low dose of zoloft. You can go a lot higher. I have heard enough bad things about lexapro that I wouldn't recommend it over other meds. If you feel the need for a boost raising you dosage might be better, or trying to add on wellbutrin is also something a lot of docs will do as wellbutrin sometimes helps combat SSRI side effects (it is also less likely to have its own side effects) and can give a boost. It its only been a couple of weeks however, it might be too soon for a medication adjustment. Try getting outside if the weather is nice where you are! (sunlight helps) Just wear sunblock! Plan an event that you will look forward to and will occupy your time with fun stuff, like a dinner party or maybe having a day out with friends. If you don't currently exercise, exercising can boost the mood. Spending a couple of weeks feeling a little low can be normal. But I don't know how low you are feeling. That does play a part. And you know you better than I do, of course. So talk to your doctor about it. [i was on zoloft for 2.5 years with no probls and then I got off of it (to see if I go without depression meds-- I couldn't) and when I got back on it I needed a much higher dose. But it still worked great for me. Someone tried adding wellbutrin to that for me (for fibro issues) and I was actually overmedicated at that point, so I got off of zoloft. I ended up switching to cymbalta because of pain issues and I am very happy with that. I need the seretonin component that wellbutrin alone doesn't provide, and I love the way cymbalta helps with my neuropathic pain. BTW, I don't really think effexor, the other current SSNRI is that good of a med. But more SSNRIs are expected to come to the US market soon. They are like a newer version of tricyclics. Cymbalta is an SSNRI which is why I mention it. Also because there are three "modern" classes of antidepressants. SSRIs, wellbutrin, and SSNRIs.]
SchexyMomma 0 Posted March 27, 2007 Do you all get your Rx from general practitioner/PCP or do you see a Psychologist/Psychiatrist? I have a great PCP and I want to ask to start antidep. but I don't know how to bring it up. Any thoughts greatly appreciated.
kyethra 0 Posted March 27, 2007 I normally see a psychiatrist because I am on a number of meds than can be psychotropic and its a good idea for me to have someone like a psychiatrist know about that and overlook it. If you feel comfortable with your PCP ask him or her how comfortable they are with prescribing you something. Just say, "I think that I should get on an antidepressant. Would you feel comfortable prescribing that for me, or would you rather refer me to a psychiatrist and/or psychologist for that?" Sometimes group practice also dictates what a doc is allowed to prescribe. For example, at the clinic I go to the internal medicine docs can't prescribe birth control, so even if I just need a simple refil because of switching gynos or something I still have to jump through hoops at the gynecology department to get that prescription from them.
