Insurance paying for protein drinks....

Recommended Posts

I have Aetna, and was not approved. I asked about using my prescription CVSCaremark and they said they couldn't submit it thru my prescription plan . Off to SAMs tomorrow to stock up...BOOO!!!

who can't submit it to Caremark? Why not? Worst case scenario is they say no

I just got my huge (HEAVY) box of shakes last week. I got the Premier Protein chocolate/vanilla combo. I have to say they are amazingly good, and either a combination of them+time made me get off a short stall I was on.

I also was approved for the scar cream -- I'm not really sure what it "does" (I mean, scar help obviously) but hey it's not going to hurt to put it on, right? Anyone been using it for a longer period of time have had any good results with it?

They also sent me a sample of chewable Vitamins as I wasn't approved for them. They are pretty good -- the brand is optisource (Citrus flavor) and is made by NestleHealthScience. No idea if these are readily available for purchase, but I know a lot of people often look for Vitamin alternatives, so I figured I'd mention.

I wish I had know about this earlier in my process, I probably wouldn't have bought that Ninja blender (though it IS pretty amazing, I just find myself not using it as much now that I have the Premier shakes and shakes from BariatricChoice.com)

:)

I'm not having surgery until the end of May. Can I go ahead and apply or should I wait?

I applied with Aetna, and was turned down- I asked the lady if she was sure she couldn't try using my CVS Caremark prescription plan- and she seemed upset and told me no! If I re- apply with my CVS Caremark, they will fax my Dr again I guess- or call me and tell me nice try! Haha. But also just spent $35 on portion drinks, so think I'll give it another try too.

Let me know if your went thru with CVS Caremark on your second try.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
