Insurance paying for protein drinks....

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I have Humana PPO as a federal employee. They do not cover the drinks, supplements or scar cream. I was disappointed but not surprised.

#105 So this needs to be done after surgery right? My surgery is on Tuesday.

No, JMom...you don't have to wait...you can apply now...it takes about a week to 10 days to find out...because your dr has to sign off and then insurance...it's worth the few minutes to apply... I should get mine today :)

Today I received 4 cases of premiere protien each contains 18 servings and a 30 day supply of liquid Multivitamin. Looks like some papers I'm supposed to fill out and return as well but I'm working right now and didn't have a chance to really look them over..yayy Friday!

Anyone successful with Tricare Prime?

I have been waiting for ages now...keep being told that it's still with their pharmacy and there is a backlog.

Anyone successful using Aetna? I figured I'd take a shot, hoping I read some previously outdated material.

Are they the kind with the red top or the foil!? I had just started getting the red tops and I was so happy bc I didn't have chalk on my lips lol! Hoping they come in the "new" style but hey free is free!

Just an FYI ... I'm 5 days post op with the sleeve. Everything is going well. I just wanted to share what my friend shared with me about getting your drinks paid for through your insurance.

Didn't know if it would go through or not but it did!! I signed up online at Insure Nutrition, gave them my insurance information (make sure it's your prescription plan info) and they did all the work for me. They verified my insurance, contacted my Doctor for the prescription and a week later I received my first shipment!!

You all may already know about this but I didn't and I honestly couldn't have been more surprised that it was approved and had no copay!! My drinks were actually delivered a week before my surgery do they were ready for me!

They also do liquid supplements but my doctor has me on chewable Flintstones lol so I'm doing those instead.

Oh and I'm doing premier chocolate.

Hi;

Your opinion is very important for us and Thanks for posting about your experience with Insure Nutrition.

I tried...I have Aetna, and waiting to hear back from them. Right after I signed up, I did a search on Aetna and their policy on coverage...what I found was that they do not cover any type of shakes or drinks, so I guess it's just a matter of time before I get the denial call.

Is this for one month or more than one month.I know someone said that it cost their insurance about $1000 but I was wondering if that's just for one month...I hope its not that high

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
