You're going to be expected to pee before you go. I was in a decent amount of pain and very sleepy. Hope everything goes well for you.

Where are you located as I'm headed to bed (Florida, USA here)

Leaving for the hospital in an hour ,surgery at11,excited and scared. What do I expect when i wake up ?

I felt a little pain and just general discomfort. I asked for a kleenex to blow my nose (who knows why?). I do remember saying yes to every inquiry of pain and therefore receiving pain meds. I found out later that I was very combative while coming out of anesthesia. That could explain my general discomfort.

I was thirsty. Oh my goodness. At some point I talked the nurse into letting me swish and spit b/c I was miserable.

It felt much better to be up and moving around, vs lying in bed.

My advice? When you get home make sure you have something you can grab onto or anchor yourself with when you try and get in and out of bed. Those stomach muscles are SORE!

I was allowed to drink right away well when I got to the second stage of recovery. First recovery was me asking for more pain meds every time they asked as well. Lol.

You're surgery is over by now & you know exactly what you could expect. I'm sure you are rockin' it!

Some people experience discomfort while others have a tougher time. If you are experience pain, ask for meds. Thank God for pain meds. LOL

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
