Hello all,

I have my surgery tomorrow at 2pm. I am scheduled to be there at 12 noon. My emotions are all over the place. I never had surgery before, so I'm anxious, excited, scared, nervous. Etc...

I've been overweight my entire life and have done yo-yo dieting. I started out my journey in July of 2013 weighing in at 325. Through diet and exercise I am now at 265 with the pre-liquid diet... Dont know if it's normal to go back and forth on this decision for the past 3-4 days, asking my self I only need to lose 65-70 pounds.

My medical problems are sleep apnea, that is my major reason for having this surgery.

Also I suffer from panic attacks & anxiety.

Is it normal to second guess my decision in going into surgery?

Thank you,

Jorge

I knew myself enough to know that everything I've ever tried didn't work for me. I was so tired of starting a brand new diet on Monday. Every Monday it seemed. I wanted it so bad so I didn't even think for a second that I wanted to back out. I decided I was going to get better so I could be the person I knew I was on the inside. My girls need me around and if I kept going, I would not be there for them. I didn't allow negative thought about what could happen during surgery. An early death from diabetes was going to be my future if I didn't take this opportunity. Only thing I questioned was which surgery to do. No negative thoughts allowed but it is perfectly normal to fear the unknown. Good luck with whatever u decide.

4 days out here and I went through yhe same exact thing! I was worried if I was doing the right thing. After months of researching I knew that I had made the right choice! The ladies at the hospital were so awesome!! I was discharged friday and was readmitted Saturday morning for dehydration and horrible migraine! Got everything figured out and was sent home today. So I am finally home after a 2 hour drive.. just in time to watch the game!

Just prepare your house with full liquids and make sure u get all ur meds figured out (what can be crushed and what can't) I have loaded up on stage 1 babyfoods and cream of blah Soups and lots of water!

Good luck

My surgery is tomorrow and I'm freakin scared. All these emotions and feelings, crazy thoughts running through my head. I questioned myself a million times, did I try hard enough? Am I making the right decision? I just pray I don't regret this.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
