Help..All restriction VANISHED

Recommended Posts

I am writing here for the first time in the hope of getting some sort of answer from anyone who can relate. I am also trying to figure out if I am going crazy. I have had my band for a year and a half and have been doing great, was adjusting to the restrictions of not eating certain foods, smaller amounts etc...I was losing weight but very slow so I got "greedy" and wanted even more restriction. This came at a time when I was assigned a new Dr. So in late October, I got a fill in which I requested it to be "tight." And, tight it was. I could barely eat and lost 8lbs in 2 weeks and oddly, I was happy. However, stupidly, I ate something I knew I shouldn't have, and it got lodged...to the point where I could not eat or drink for 3 days. Now mind you if I could have gotten Water down, I would have left it alone. So off to the Drs, they took all my Fluid out stating my stomach needed 3 weeks to heal. Fast forward 3 weeks and I got a fill..felt nothing, as if I didn't get filled at all. So after 2 more fills with NOTHING I ran back again. This time, the fill killed, was very painful. However, still NO RESTRICTION. After 4 fills with nothing within 2 months, I requested to see my original surgeon. He claimed to give me 1.5 ccs and told me to watch..However, 3 days later NO RESTRICTION. I can eat everything and anything including meat, Rice, bread, you name it. Its as if I didn't have the surgery at all. So, fed up and frustrated I am running to the Drs AGAIN. If anyone at all has experienced this or anything siliar please message me!! They make me feel like I am going crazy!

I've been through the same thing. Had surgery this past Sept. Start of Nov I went every week for fills. After about three to four days it's like I never had surgery. Last trip got a fill so tight I went three weeks keeping nothing down, not even Water. Went two and a half weeks ago to have some removed. I admit it felt good to eat and drink. Making an appt this week for more fill to be put in. It always feels right when they do it but then the swelling goes down and I'm right back to eating. I feel your pain & wish you luck :)

I would be explaining all this to your doctor. Being too tight for a while could have caused secondary problems, and if fills aren't working, before getting anymore, I'd be asking for an xray to check for a slip, a upper GI or something.

Did your surgeon say all the Fluid ( CC's ) that was supposed to be in the band system was there, to help rule out a leak?

Either way, I know what I'd be doing...fluoroscopy check to see if everything is correct. That will show, not guess, if your band is in the correct placement, etc, and they should be able to get you to a correct restriction level. Best of luck to you.

Daria,

I agree with Catfish87 and lellow. Hope you follow up with your doctor for testing to figure out exactly what's going on with you. I had to have an UGI to confirm that my band had slipped due to it being too tight and not be able to keep anything down and the area had to rest for 6 weeks before talk of a fill could be entertained, and then it was filled in increments. You NEVER want it to be too tight and the doctor should have known that. Keep us posted as to your results. we're rooting for you!!

Never had this or any other problems, but I am always interested when successful veterans develop these type of issues...

So I'm just signing on to stay up with and updates....

Reading these posts for 3 years, it would seem there is a common issue that when people get a total un-fill, things behave differently after that...at least that is just my impression....

Please let us know what you find out....

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
