wwled 38 Posted February 2, 2014 I'm glad I finally found the right section on here! I had the lapband in 2010, minimal weight loss, only down 40+ pounds. Dealing with nausea, vomiting, and horrible acid reflux for the last year and a half. Switching to the sleeve on Wednesday, all one procedure. Has anyone else had the switched done in one procedure? Any advice on what I can expect for pain post op, as well as the best post op diet? Also, has anyone seen better weightloss results after switching? I know that's a few questions, just trying to calm my nerves and figure everything out. Thanks! Erin 1 DaniCan reacted to this
DebbieRenee 16 Posted February 3, 2014 Hello Erin I am so EXCITED for you...I went from band to sleeve 1-07-14 and LOVE it! No more acid reflux and no more stupid band issues! My band was either too tight, threw up all the time or too lose! And out of all the surgeries in my lifetime, it was by far the best and had the quickest recovery! Less pain than the band!! I am down 19lbs and feel great most days but am tired a lot...most likely due to the change in my diet. You will LOVE the Sleeve! so much nicer and man do I get full faster and none of that food getting stuck in my sternum - hated that with the band. Post Op= you will be tired and won't really want to drink much but you will have to make yourself...LOTS of Protein shakes ready in your fridge, along with Jello, apple juice, yogurt and bottles of Water. Most important you need a good laxative...Milk of Magnisia (sp) or Colace. Post on here when you're post op so I know how you are doing. You will get to have some broth and even some Soup after surgery - I had Tomato and let me tell you after fasting before surgery you will think its awesome! No need for nerves you will do GREAT! Take Care Debbie 3 DaniCan, KaminaBlue and jazma reacted to this
wwled 38 Posted February 3, 2014 Thanks Debbie! Congrats on your 19lbs down! That must be an awesome feeling for you. I have been at a stand still in weightloss for the last couple years with the band. I start my fasting tonight, just had my last "real" meal. Thank you, you definitely made me feel better. I'll be sure to post here after surgery, and keep you updated Erin
mumoftwo 34 Posted February 4, 2014 So happy your making the switch. I too had a lapband (2006) lost 70lbs over 12mths but literally starved and lived off fluids. Band was too tight and I vomited everything I ate. I had my surgery 3 weeks ago. Lots of shakes, Water, apple juice and sorbet helped me post surgery. I'm down 20lbs in 5 weeks (including the 2 weeks pre op diet) You'll do great!! 1 DaniCan reacted to this
CowgirlJane 14,260 Posted February 5, 2014 (edited) I had the band for ten long years! The sleeve is so much better BUT recovery is a little harder due to dehydration. Don't be shy and get IV fluids if you need them. I didn't - but I made it my mission to sip sip sip those early weeks. When you read the posts that say "I regret the sleeve, I feel like I am dying" I generally suspect undiagnosed dehydration OR excess acid. My surgeon had me on PPI the first3 months as prevention. After the initial healing period the sleeve ROCKS but I felt not quite human those first 6-8 weeks.... Edited February 5, 2014 by CowgirlJane
BellaHugz 331 Posted February 5, 2014 Erin, Oh how I can relate to what you are saying the most I lost on the sleeve was 60lbs and that took 2 yrs to get too since my ex Dr was slow to do fills. When the the throwing up problems would happen my life and nutrition took a dive it is a wonder I made it through the pain and embarrasement of the failed lapband. I agree with the others getting my lapband to sleeve revision on 1/17 was the best thing I ever did for myself!! It is amazing how good I felt after surgery, and I was shocked how my stomach looked after the sleeve surgery! I compare the two surgerys like that of a pinto and a cadillac surgery and recovery for me. I was up and walking the hallways with in a few hours and I was so happy with my decesion to do the sleeve surgery! My New doctor and his team were the dream team of care. Plus having a surgery suite to recover didnt hurt either. After a few days in the hospital the recovery at home is harder because of the exhaustion and tryng to get your liquids in. Make sure you get up and walk push your self to do small trips around the house to build up your endurance! Best of luck to you and your new sleeve!
wwled 38 Posted February 6, 2014 Hi all. First day post op. not doing too bad at all. Pain in my back as well as gas pain in my stomach but its manageable. Going soon to get an X-ray and do a barium swallow test. As long as that turns out okay I can start on liquids. Best of all, I could sleep on my side! When I got lapband, I didn't dare dream to roll on my side because I knew how badly it hurt. Excited to get this weightloss ball rolling. 1 KaminaBlue reacted to this
