My mother has history of high blood pressure. She had the gastric sleeve on Monday. Was released from hospital Friday morning. Friday afternoon BP was 180/110. She's on Atenolol for high blood pressure and also on levothyroxine for thyroid issues. Took her to ER Dept. Friday. They kept her overnight and gave her more meds. BP is still very high. Can't seem to get anywhere with any doctors. Any reason why BP would be so high after surgery even with meds?

I don't know of any sleeve-related reason. Could be this is something not related to the sleeve at all. Best wishes!

Husband was on 3 BP meds and I was on 2, we are both off one BP med each. Our BP is excellent 2 months post op, and after surgery. Seems they would be finding the problem at the hospital. Have they done kidney tests on her? Google kidneys and HBP and research. Best wishes to you both.

Could be post op pain is causing the increase. I take 2 meds for htn also. When I'm in pain, my bp tends to be higher.

Good luck!

Hi

I was sleeved on 21 Jan and my blood pressure, which was not a problem before, has been through

the roof since.

My doctor told me it was a side effect of Anaesthetic, plus pain, and they will monitor.

hopefully not a long term issue

Thank you everyone for all of the feedback. My mother seems to be getting better. Blood pressure is starting to go down. She has a follow up appointment on 2/6 with her regular doctor and hopefully they will figure out what happened. I think her situation is similar to UKHEIDI. She isn't currently taking any pain medications (pain has actually been minimal since leaving the hospital) but she was feeling quite foggy for some time and attributed that to her high blood pressure. When she stopped feeling so foggy and then took her blood pressure it had gone down. My OPINION (I am no doctor so this is just my opinion) is that the anesthesia stayed in her system for quite a long time, maybe because of the sleeve, and that is what was causing the high blood pressure. Hoping to get some real answers in a couple of days.

Blood Pressure...Right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing?? My surgeon says he doesn't deal with B/P and my PCP doesn't seem to know a lot about the Sleeve...What the H---! I was on 2 blood pressure meds and was told Not to take them. Now I had my visit with PCP and he didn't put me back on them. My range is between 140/90 and sometimes its 124/74...I DONT GET IT!

Ask if it's related to the CO2 gas used (if it was laproscopic). That happened to me after I had lap band surgery. It was scary...headache and blurred vision. It did resolve with meds. Best of luck to your mom.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
