I was allowed tea the day after surgery, as long as it is Decaf, although, I did accidentally consume some caffeinated tea and it did not bother me. As for milk, a lot of people become lactose intolerant after surgery (some temporarily, some long term). I am allowed milk once I get to full liquids. Maybe try almond milk?

Not everyone has this restriction.

My surgery was 2 ½ weeks ago. I was offered tea in the hospital. Some surgeons discourage coffee and tea because they have caffeine which is a diuretic (contributing potentially to dehydration) and also can irritate some new sleeves. Personally, my sleeve will not tolerate coffee (nausea), and I am sticking to herbal tea.

I am encouraged to have milk multiple times a day in my Protein shakes, although I prefer almond milk. Some surgeons discourage milk out of fear that patients are lactose intolerant.

However I am a big believer in doing what YOUR surgeon recommends after surgery, not what someone else's surgeon recommends. Your surgeon knows your personal health circumstances better than the members of this forum do.

Didn't know we weren't allowed. I've had a cup of Decaf camomile tea every night since I had surgery. The warmth soothes my sleeve, helps me relax and sleep. I also make my Protein Shakes with skim milk for the added Protein and other nutrition in milk. Not to mention yogurt, cheese, and cottage cheese. Luckily I haven't suffered the postop lactose intolerance that some others have, since so much of my protein comes from dairy.

I have multiple cups of tea with skimmed milk daily. I'm British, it's mandatory.

I'm allowed to drink all the decaffinated tea I want. Milk was allowed on the liquid phase. I use milk to get 8 grams more of Protein in my Protein shakes. THANK GOD I'm not lactose intolerent--don't know how I'd get my Protein in without dairy.

I drank decaffinated coffee (Starbucks brand) after surgery and it was fine. I had read on the label that it was also lower in acid. I tried some instant decaffinated coffee and man what a mistake. Immeadiate stomach ache. I guess the decaff Starbucks REALLY is lower in acid.

I would suggest decafinated tea if you're going to have tea. There are some great decaffinated teas out there--I hope the research showing the green tea is better for you is true ; )--I drink a lot of decaff green tea. It counts towards my liquids for my doc and my new tummy seems to like the warm liquid on these recent cold days. Come summer, I'll switch to iced tea.

I sure do miss my caffeine though, I didn't realize how much I relied on it to wake me up until recently. I have reached a point where I MUST get at least 8 hours sleep a night--if not more to feel awake the next day. I'll be allowed caffeine at the 3 month mark--so not until March eleventh for me.

its the Decaf and lactose thing also a lot of people have sweet tea so they don't want you to ad sugar either of course.

but like a lot of people I was given milky tea in hospital and I was lactose intolerant before the op too lol

they don't even do decaf tea in hospital which is funny but yeah that's the reason behind it all switch to decaf and if you are lactose intolerant lactose free milk and your good.

Somehow milk and tea are not suiting me. I get a slimy feeling for a long time after having tea...

For me tea and coffee were not no no's, BUT they were not allowed to count towards my numbers towards consumption of liquid for the day because they we categorized as a diaretic.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
