Aniusti 2 Posted February 1, 2014 I am 3 weeks post op for my gastric bypass. My surgery was on 1/8/14. I had a great experience, no adverse side effects at all (except soreness, of course!). I was off pain meds within a week and have felt so great I think to myself, "did I really just do that?" I primarily did the surgery because i am a diabetic with no complications. My mom is on dialysis and is blind from the disease and my sister (1 year younger than me) had a pacemaker at the age of 37 because of this dreadful disease. I am so pleased - i have not had any diabetic meds since i left the hospital and my sugars are perfect! I have lost 25 pounds already, even though I have not yet been cleared for normal activity by my surgeon (hopefully that will be this week). I am anxious to get on with my plan and move forward! I hope that those of you who are still in the process take heart that there are a lot of us who had a great, complication-free experience out here. I have found that with this surgery, as with pregnancy, people just feel the need to tell you every horror story they have ever heard. I'm not sure why that is... 2 kristireyna and Lacunn711 reacted to this
kristireyna 23 Posted February 2, 2014 Thank you for your update. I am about a month away from surgery. Now that these 6 months have gone by, I'm getting nervous and just thinking of the worst case possible. I know if I don't have it done, my hormones will never work right. Just spazzing out a little
memebear 44 Posted February 2, 2014 Hi, Had my band 6 days ago. It was uneventful except I had a UTI the week before surgery and had to get up every2 hours to urinate..each time I would get the dry heaves..yuk.. The rest was pretty easy. My main complaint is I am hungry! I'm not sure if I had a fill. No gas pains just a little discomfort from the surgery. Do you generally have a fill during surgery? Oh, by the way, I am 70. Cherryhair 88 Posted February 2, 2014 Congrats on your smooth recovery so far. I think its good to hear everyone's experience-good, bad, or somewhere in the middle-it's that person's truth and can help someone else going through a similar situation.
sherrylynn0710 0 Posted February 2, 2014 I am 3 weeks post op also. Had my surgery the same day. I have not had any problems either. I am walking and doing weights at the gym. I have lost almost 20 pounds from my surgery date. I also feel that people tell more negative than positive things. This is a life saver if you use it right!
