I'm not sure how things are done on this site. So I guess I will start with an intro. I'm Becky 43yo sahmm of 3. I've been overweight for around 22 yrs. Tried several things over the years before getting to this point. I went to the lap band seminar 4 days ago and met with the surgery coordinator yesterday. My surgery is sometime after mid May. I just have one question for now. I was wondering if anyone here knows what kind of Protein Shake Dr.Gerame Wells in Hopkinsville, KY will have me to drink? I was told this information at the seminar but I didn't think to write it down and I forgot. I know I have plenty of time but I want to do some price comparing before hand. Any information would be appreciated.

Becky

Hi and welcome Becky,

Im not sure if they still do, but your surgeons practice recommended EAS shakes to others on here who they have seen. Probably just give them a call and see to make sure thats still their suggestion.

Always nice to have another UK fan on here! At least I hope so... :)

Hi Becky, jump right in; this is a great place to be! I started my process last June and was banded in November. It was reading so many posts here and asking questions that made me feel so completely ready for the big day when it finally arrived.

A couple of thoughts: be gentle with yourself and thank yourself for making this big choice for a healthy future. You are choosing yourself and that is a very powerful thing. I had a notebook to write everything down in one place -- all the appointments, little tips I was learning along the way, questions for the doc, etc., and I made a list of all the reasons I wanted to lose weight, the things I want to be able to do, etc. Also I got a therapist for a while to talk through my triggers for eating -- it was great to notice the when, why and what of my emotional eating, how I used food to cope with anxiety, etc. It's not like I hadn't looked at that before -- I'm 52 -- but this time was different. Even if I wasn't completely stopping yet, I was noticing what my automatic responses were and that helped me later. Also I started upping the exercise and I'm pretty sure exercise is the magic ingredient. I didn't want to do it but I increased walking and working out. This gave me something to step into post-surgery when I suddenly did want to do it.

Having been an up and down dieter for twenty years, I can't tell you what a relief it is to have the band. It's not just the weight lost (yippee!) but the shutting up of those gnawing voices in my head asking about food all the time. Good lucks it's everything and look forward to seeing you on the forum!

Catfish is a UK fan? My hubby bleeds blue too. We're in Louisville, so of course there's a lot of rivalry. I'm not much of a sports person so I'm happy when either one wins. Unless, of course, they're playing each other, then I root for UK to make my hubby happy.

I would call to be sure which shakes they want. I wasted a lot of money trying different ones only to be given a list of ones they wanted.

Best wishes on your journey!

Thank you all for replying to my post and for welcoming me. I hope I have found a good place to be. I have sent my coordinatior an email and I'm hoping she gets back to me on Monday. I like the thought of keeping a journal and I am starting that today. I did that a while back when I was counting calories. I wrote everything down - not just what I ate, but what all was going on at the time and it was working great. I was losing weight actually 25 pounds and 44 inches in 7 weeks then my uncle and my father passed away and I could never get back on track. My mom and aunt have had gastric bypass. I never liked the thought of rerouting so it was never an option. I have been looking into lap band for a while and finally went to the seminar. I did find out that I have ironically seen my family dr on 11-19, 12-19, and 01-13 and that counts so I half way there as far as the weigh ins go. My surgeon only does lap bands once a week so I am looking at anywhere from mid May to first week of June for my surgery. At this point, I am only excited, not nervous at all. I'm sure I will have many questions along the way and any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Becky

Hi Becky!

Welcome to the group. I am so happy I landed here before my September surgery. I learned so much. You will be happy you did, too. Good luck on your journey. Use this time to really understand yourself and the process. Identify and change the things that need to be changed. Ask questions of us but most importantly of your doctor. You will rock this!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
