Couple of food and timeframe questions

Recommended Posts

I just tried steel cut oatmeal and Sleevie Ray says "do not like!" Sheesh, I couldn't get down more than 3-4 bites before I felt pukey.

Really? I I love oatmeal I have not attempted to eat it yet I tried farina the week of stage III and it went down five fine I love steel cut oatmeal's well but I haven't tried either I hope you can tolerate it soon ....

Sorry for the typos...I'm watching my hometown team win the big game!!!!!

That timeframe is different for every person. Ask yourself these questions: Can you get all your Protein in? I had no room for anything besides protein and a bite or two of veggies for a few months. Do acidic foods bother you? I couldn't eat most fruits till many, many months after surgery. I missed the stone fruit season the year I was sleeved. Do starchy foods make you sick? I couldn't eat bread, Pasta, potatoes, or rice till about 9 months to one year. Are you losing weight consistently every week? Some foods are pretty calorie dense. I didn't eat those foods till I was close to goal. Does eating that food make you want more? Some people have to give up certain foods because they cannot eat them in small amounts. There are many foods I only eat when out because I know I would eat more than I should if they were in my hone. Lynda

I love this insight. I'm being sleeved tomorrow

I try to focus myself on the fact that the sleeve helps control how much I eat, but I control WHAT I eat. Eventually, the sleeve will loosen, and I don't want to be finding myself at the bottom of a bag of Doritos.

i can eat anything that does not have a lot of sugar.. Im basically at goal weight and trying to slow down my weight loss.. i added in 1 300 calorie meal.. The only think so far that has not agreed with me is a dd hot cocoa. i had no idea how much sugar was in it and it killed me.

Chris

Someone recently told me that DD has changed their recipe and that its intolerable to people, even ones who have not had surgery. I have it up long before surgery because it was making me ill

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
