Welcome!! Depending on your insurance requirements and surgeons requirements you'll be instructed on what steps need to be taken. It's different for everybody.

Mine for example: I had to attend a seminar first. Then a support group meeting. I had to do 3 monthly nutritional visits, See a psychologist then do some online seminar.

Good luck and keep us posted!!

Hi Dymond, I guess it is different at every facility. I had to attend an information center then meet with the LapBand coordinator at the hospital. Then a psych eval and meeting with a nutritionist (these were same day) then finally I met with the surgeon and got my date. One more meeting with the nutritionist, some labs and pre-op then finally the big day. Congratulations on getting the ball rolling and making this decision for health and happiness. Best wishes!

At my first appt (after seminar) they did my weight, then I went to discuss which type of WLS I was going to have. I thought I would get a bypass, but the doc reviewed my health history with me and found I would be better with the band. Then we discussed all the hurdles I would have to jump to get to surgery day: cardiologist, pulmonologist, psych eval, nutritionist, etc. Once I had the checklist and found out what my pre-op diet would be, I was ready to get started. Surgery was only about 2 months later for me.

Good luck!! ;)

i attended a seminar and than the doctor visit. insurance was verified and requirements were instructed. i had a shit load of stuff to do. my health was so bad it wasn't just a dietician and psychologists. i had to see my psychiatrists, cardiologists, sleep apnea, i had 19 tubes of blood taken out of me towards surgery date. don't want to scare you but every doctor is different , every insurance is different just be patient and do whatever is asked of you. good luck on the journey. ps a hint. learn all you can about everything. the more you know the less you will fail.

first Step was a support meeting held at the bariatric center. Then appt with Surgeon to discuss which surgery. I opted for Band . then it was bloodwork, pulmonary study, psychiatic exam, upper GI, EKG .. I think some of these tests were because of my other health issues and age. However there are certain things that I think should be done regardless. I was happy that they took all precautions. Best of Luck to you and we are all here to help. Been the best thing I have ever done..

I've decided to get LapBand, too! My consultation is on Feb 6th. I was told by the program director who made the appointment for me that it would be 2 hours where I would meet the surgeon and dietician and other people plus get all the information on costs and what the next 3 months will look like for me prior to surgery.

I am both nervous and excited.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
