8 weeks post op, what are you eating?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved Dec 3, 2013, almost 8 weeks ago. It's still very hard for me to eat solid Proteins. The only meat I've been able to keep down is tuna (only about 1.5 ounces at a time) and 1 meatball or about 4 bites of meatloaf. Is that normal? Eating slow is so hard for me. Should I force myself to eat 1 ounce of meat once an hour to reach a certain ounce of meat per day? I know this is BAD, but I have been eating only carbs with some Protein in them, like 1 serving of mac and cheese, which I have to force myself to eat, or half of a sweet or baked potato. chips seem to be the easiest thing to eat but I can't eat more than a serving. I do work out, about 3 days a week, cardio for 30-45 min. I cannot stomach Protein shakes anymore, I'd rather not eat. I think my body is in starvation mode since I've only lost about 6 lbs my 2nd month.

I would chat with your NUT and your Dr...take it from someone who just spent three days in the hospital this week

with dehydration and going without any nutrition for four days straight and not my doctor told me I was losing too much weight too fast by not eating...I would definitely talk to you to your medical team...

I had surgery the same day as you, and when I've tried things like rice and crackers -- carby things -- they seem to swell and I feel sick and unable to take in anything else. My doc says no to all those things for the first year, so I really do avoid them for the most part (had three gluten-free crackers with some chicken salad and a couple of tortilla chips as part of a Cajun oyster dish, and I tried some rice with scallops), and I think because of that, I'm able to take in meat-based protein without issue. Even with that said, I've only lost eight pounds in my second month since surgery. 27 pounds in the first month, 8 in the second month, 35 pounds since surgery, and 52 pounds altogether.

my plan says Protein first always first because our stomachs are so small and the protein is the most important then veggies and then carbs. My nut said you want to make sure you get your protein or you can loss your muscle ton or as some people on her have said you can have Hair loss. I don't have a problem with ground beef, chicken or pork but I did try a hot dog the other day and it was horrible learned my lesson on that one.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
