Waiting to have sleeve after another surgery

Recommended Posts

Hello. I started my journey on 11/26 with the WLC. During this time I also was scheduled to have an endometrial ablation on 12/13. The ablation was unsuccessful and now I'm having a hysterectomy next week. When I met with the weight loss surgeon on 12/23 I was not sure which surgery I was going to have first. He told me I should wait 6 months between procedures so my body would completely heal. After speaking with the OBGYN on 12/30 I decided to have the hysterectomy first.

I was supposed to go see the NUT last week but called and told them what is going on and asked when I should resume my visits for the sleeve. Nurse I spoke with also thought I would need to wait 6 months to have the sleeve but said she would take to the MD and call me back. Well she called today and the doctor is now saying I would only need to wait 6 to 8 weeks to have the sleeve surgery!. This to me seems too short of a timeframe to have 2 laparoscopic back to back. Of course she said it could be longer depending how I heal and feel.

Question, has anyone else here had a procedure before this surgery? If so, how long did you wait to have the sleeve done?

Thanks.

Tracy

I have not had this procedure, but the sleeve does much of its healing in the first 8 weeks. Perhaps it is the same for a hysterectomy? Sorry this is happening to you... what a lot to go through! In a year, you are going to feel like a new woman. I would plan on 8 weeks, and see how it goes! I sounds like the WLS Doc is flexible. As a side, when you lose a lot of weight you body releases lots of hormones stored in the fat... I wonder how that might affect your other situation...

Best of luck!

Quite a bit of blood loss with a hysterectomy too. Take your time in between no matter which you do. Good luck, hard decision.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to wait to see how I feel a couple weeks after 1st surgery before going back to weight loss clinic. Too bad they both couldn't have been done at the same time, I asked and both Dr.'s said no. Oh well, had to try. It is going to be a busy year.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
