MUST stop this eating!

Recommended Posts

So I am almost 10 months out....

my recovery and journey so far has been amazing!!! With exception to a non WLS issue, I have had ZERO problems....

then POOF - about 2 weeks ago my appetite became ferocious. And I am eating too often, and too much through the day.....

I am 20 lbs from my goal weight, and nearing -100 loss since surgery. My weight loss has stalled several times and been slow for the past 3 months. I keep a food log, watch calories, fat, carbs, portion size, and I exercise.....

I cannot figure out why I have been so hungry though. This is the problem. I had NO hunger for 8-9 months. I have looked at my daily routine, not changed any Vitamins, nothing is really different. I am hoping this just passes....meanwhile I am trying to keep my eating under control.....

Also, I gained 3 lbs in the past 2 weeks.

Any suggestions or has anyone been through this and what was your result? Also, I am not a food addict - I AM hungry :(

Have you gotten you B Vitamin levels checked? Pre-op I started all my Vitamins and was doing really well, then I became ravenous, couldn't stop eating. I talked to my nutritionist, she asked about my vitamins and supplements. I was on a multi with b's, plus b1 and B12 and Biotin. She said I might have had too much b12. Says the reason b12 gives you energy is b/c it causes hunger which causes eating etc. I reduced the extra b12 and went back to normal hunger in about a week. Since you are post-op, I'd ask your nutritionist first.

Whether you want to hear this or not but most people do start to feel hunger again after several months. This is when the real work begins...

Your body is now used to small amounts and probably on a food schedule. I know mine is. i understand your ravenous appetite. I feel it all the time now...But I know that it is partly head hunger and that I only need what I eat at those meals and I have one snack before bed.....There have been times like you that I give into it..but then I feel horrible both physically and mentally.

Try making a Protein drink or Protein juice and sipping it all day long. i have found it works quite well for me...It might not be the total answer because you have to fix the brain to fix the body and you would not have lost that much if some work had not already been done....

You have to understand that this is part of it and plow through it....There will be times when it dissipates again and then returns....

We are all food addicts or we would not have needed this surgery..... :)

I am 9 months out and 30 pounds to go...because I've gained weight back. I am able to eat more often. The full feeling does not last long at all. Like the others have said, I guess this is where it's time to really stay focused on the goal and plow ahead.

You seem to be doing everything right. I have a problem with keeping a stall. Yes a stall I'm getting smaller & smaller & I eat as if I just had surgery. I think I have a lot of stress in my life. There was a point in life that I was able to eat more food but now I eat like a 2 year old. I have a small bowl & my kids bowl. If I eat more yes I would vomit. Everything blood & all is perfect in my health wise but I just keep getting smaller. This weight must stop before I look like a skeleton. I'm 5 foot 105 pounds size 00 and I'm not showing off at all. I'm comfortable with my tiny body but how do I stop the scale? I'm not far from being 100 pounds.

just came from the doctor because I am being cleared for surgery (non RNY related) and my blood work showed

severe anemia (this has been usual for me)

extremely low Vit D (also usual for me)

and very low B12

I have had Iron & D prescriptions regularly for many years, but dont recall ever having B12 checked....

So, I know for a fact that INCREASED B12 causes hunger, thus I am a little concerned about taking a B12 supplement. Also, I can find tons of comments on google about B12 increasing hunger. Thoughts?

oh and also, I gained 2 lbs and havent lost a pound in 7 weeks now.

Is that true about b12? My b12 levels are normal and I still dont have hunger.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
