Married Couple getting sleeved together?

Recommended Posts

Hi Folks,

My hubby and I are both getting the sleeve in May ( I know forever far away) but I am curious to see if anyone else has done it at the same time with their spouse or if they staggered? We have a 4 year old (almost 5) and I am thinking it might be easier to stagger the surgeries so we can take care of each other. My other main concern is complicaitons. What if we both have complications while doing it at the same time? It just seems risky when we have a kiddo to think about.

THoughts...experiences?

Thanks!

We did it 3 months apart. We have 3 kids 7 and under with autism. We needed one of us to be 100%. Plus it was nice to be taken care of.

definitely would NOT recommend doing it at the same time> My surgery is Monday and we have a 3 year old. I need my sons father to help out as much as possible.

There are several couples on here that have done it together or very near together. Hopefully they see this.

To be honest. I did not need anyone to take care of me after the surgery. I had all my food, supplies etc ready in my home before I had surgery. Since u have a small child to take care of, you may to stagger several weeks apart just in case both of you have pain and could not take care of your child, if u can have a family member stay for several days until both of u are ok. You will not be able to pick up your child since it could pose a risk . No more than 10 pounds.

My surgery was May 8, 2013 and my wife's was July 8th. As mentioned previously, this allowed her to take care of me and me to reciprocate. While my recovery was no problem, my wife had a tougher time...would've been rough if we didn't have some time between the two surgeries.

Now, 9 mos. for me, 7 for her, we are both loving life and doing great! She hit her goal about 4 weeks ago...mine, 3 weeks ago.

Good luck and Godspeed...y'all are in for an awesome journey! :D

Hi my husband and I were done about 3hrs apart. It has been fantastic and has made life so much easier. Same food situations at the same time, exercise you name it. We were done on Oct 22nd 2013, if you can get a family member to help out with you child for a week or 2 long term it makes life easier. Including Dr's appointments and blood test's.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
