I took 2 bites of my daughter's hot dog last night. I chewed well and swallowed. It became immediately clear to me that this was a mistake. After wretching and throwing up for an hour I realized that even if you chew well the hot dog remains a single piece. I may never eat a hot dog again.

I am 9 months out - hot dog is one food I have NOT touched yet. Doubt I will.....

how far out are you and was it an all beef hot dog?

Don't yell at me but I was 16 days out and it was all beef. I had no intentions on eating a whole hot dog. Just that little left over portion looked so good and everything has been going down well. But not so much last night. I lived and I learned. If I attempt another one it will have to go in the blender first, but that's not likely for a while.

Perhaps when fully healed you could eat a little hot dog but that soon after surgery? You still have a lot of swelling and you're not healed enough for that type of food experimentation. At that point I was still on pureed food. Follow your doctors orders to prevent possible injury or complications. I was told that fibrous, stringy, or dense foods could get caught in the staples causing infection or leakage and could require more surgery to fix. Vomiting like that so soon after your surgery can't be good for incisions that haven't had time to completely heal, either. Your unpleasant experience should be enough to help you not want to do it again. Take it slow and give yourself time to heal. :-)

I love how you used the word MAY never eat a hot dog again...For one thing you are not far enough out to be eating that kind of junk..lol

Secondly the spice alone would back up and make you throw up...

But like I said, you used the word May....That means that later on you may try it again. It reminds me of all the medical commercials on TV. It might, It may. It might possible assist.....you know and then they quickly list all the side effects and you think...man if I took that the cure would be worse then the problem I'm having.....

Too funny... :)

Yes, I may and probably will eat a hot dog again. I'm 48 and plan on living a long time. It just won't be anytime soon.

Man, im 4 months out and am craving a nathan's hotdog chopped up and covered in chili cheese and sauerkraut. You are making me rethink the hot dog part. I hate the throwing up . I have been doing it minimum once a week since i hit pureed stage at 2 weeks out. My first food i tried was a baked tater tot. I thought " oh man i can chew this to paste and it will go down ok" well it went down fine.. and an hour later i heaved for about 2 hours straight until it came back out. I hate that.. If i eat something before or after an item, i will throwing up until i get to the thing that didnt settle. Then it stops and im good to go.

I have been scarred for life about not eating certain foods now.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
