5 days and Im freaking out

Recommended Posts

My surgery date is in 5 days and while I'm super excited, I'm freaking out to the point I've thought about backing out, is this normal?

I think it is pretty normal. Mine is in 12 days and I'm excited too. Of course we wouldn't be normal if we were a little nervous... any kind of surgery is scary so why not this too? Good luck to you and keep your eye on the prize and all will be fine.

Very normal. By now, you've done research & have probably taken classes in preparation for this new lifestyle. I was quite nervous, but focused on staying positive and what I wanted to accomplish from all of this. Stay focused on what your goals are & you'll do just fine!

Good luck!

I was nervous too, and thought I was crazy for what I was going to do. But I had done my research and was confident it was the right choice for me. It turns out I was one of the lucky ones and have had no discomfort at all. Had surgery on a Friday and was back at work the following Wednesday. I am almost 2 weeks post-op and tolerating everything that I am allowed so far.

Thank you all so much!! I'm ready for this, I think on this side of the surgery, the unknown is what is scary. But I have researched it and I know I'm ready, just scared

I was nervous and excited at the same time. I knew that my past attempts had not worked and if I wanted to be healthy, I had to have the surgery.

Right now the surgery is an unknown for you. I'm sure you're worrying about how muc pain is there afterwards. Will I be the one for whom it does not work? I'm scared. This is so extreme. I can lose weight on my own.

Only you can decide if surgery is the correct option for you. I have no regrets and am very glad I decided to have the surgery.

Good luck.

Being nervous is normal.

I almost backed out the day before surgery, then went to the required pre-op seminar and went back to feeling good about my decision. Being around other people that were in the same boat made me feel better. Then, the next morning in admitting, I almost backed out again. I though to myself, "You can walk out of here and only be out $500." I was terrified. Then I looked at my husband and thought about all the reasons why I was going to have the surgery. I chose right then and there to go thru with it.

That was the best decision - I had some buyer's remorse the next couple of days, wondering if this was the right decision, but I attribute that to not feeling good. Once I started feeling better, my outlook was better.

You got this!!!!!!!

Totally normal. I had some doubts leading up to surgery. Mostly questioning whether I could just buckle down and do this on my own, but really, I knew the answer to that. By the time surgery day rolled around. I was resolved. Not one hesitation.

SUPER NORMAL TO BE NERVOUSE, BUT ITS A LIFE CHANGER. I WAS SCARED, NERVOUSE AND ANXIOUSE ALL IN ONE. I HAD NEVER SEEN THE INSIDE OF A HOSPITAL AS A PATIENT, MUCH LESS AS SURGERY PATIENT. BUT IT ALL CAME OUT WELL AND IM DOING AWSOME, OP WAS ON 12/10 AND IM DOWN 69LBS

Dear Zoumommy

I'm the day after you. I"m not thinking about it... I guess i'm doing so many things to get ready I don't have time to think about it. I'm trying to work on my bedroom and bath "cleaning"... get my car in for service...Last min food shopping.. Make sure we have Dog food in the house. I have a husband with Early Alzheimer's.. so i'm the only Driver so I have to make sure I have everything I need in the house when I come home. I'm also a person that believes "how you go under anest.. is the way you come out of anest. So I always make a CD of my music.... So i'm doing that today.. and my Surgeon is putting it on his IPhone in case the OR does not have a CD player. "what a Guy".

I wish you well my Friend. So get busy...and you will forget the Nervous...Throw out all the fat clothes you do not like.. Be well my Friend. JewelJ

I don't think I would have had time to listen to any music, I remember lying on the table, arms outstretched, closing my eyes..

and then I was waking up in my room...looking for ice chips because my mouth was dry, and forcing myself to get up and walk..

Canam60, I'm with you! They lay me down and started to explain what was happening. I remember the cannula going into my hand - and then nothing until I was coming round in recovery... I didn't even have time to look around the room.

Zoumommy, nerves are to be expected, this is serious and major surgery. But 9 months out and being a healthy, happy sleever who can't quite believe it all, I have no regrets. Worth it all!

I barely got a glimpse of the OR. I was out within seconds of being rolled in. Woke up asking for my hubby and they had him there in minutes. No problems at all.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
