Prep medically supervised diet

Recommended Posts

Did anyone else have trouble getting their PCP to do their diet? Mine says she isn't comfortable completing the packet the surgeon sent and I dislike going to strange doctors. Any options? Or does anyone know if somewhere like minute clinic would do it? I work super crazy hours and need the late appointments.

This is the first time I've heard of that kind of problem with a PCP. But like everyone else, all doctors are not created equally. It isn't uncommon for a PCP to be quite ignorant about bariatric surgery. Did she give a reason for her discomfort?

I would ask around or maybe your surgeon can recommend a wls friendly PCP for you. Good luck!

I needed to do a 6 month medically supervised diet....with that, I needed to have weekly weigh-ins, along with face to face counseling....complete with progress notes, charts and graphs, etc, etc...to have submitted to my insurance...

My PCP was willing to help any way he can...but it really was more than he could do efficiently...

So I went to w weight loss center...run by a medical staff....had to pay out of pocket about $100 a week....

They did put together a very impressive report, complete with everything needed to show the insurance co....

BTW, Like any diet, I did well within the first phases, then eventually failed at the whole thing....a lot of money down the drain, but it did do it's purpose...showed the Insurance Co...for the record, signed off by a Dr.,..that I have tried and failed at traditional dieting....and that Surgery will be the only avenue for successful weight loss....

If I was good at dieting, why would I need surgery? And that 6 month program proved I am not good at it!

My PCP was supportive, but like above, it was hard to get everything in his notes that the insurance companies insist on in order to get approved (I needed 9 consecutive months). Therefore, I created a form! I got a list of everything required from my surgeon/NUT and made a form that specifically addressed all those things. I even had check boxes! Each month when I went in, my doctor completed the form, stamped it with his office's info and signed it. It worked beautifully. I was approved first request.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
