kyleebean 209 Posted January 30, 2014 I received my EOB today from Humana for my surgery in November. Mind you I was in the hospital 4 days and had some serious complications. My part of the bill is 124,950. That's right kids over a hundred thousand dollars. I had a preauthorization, I did everything by the book and now I am stuck with a bill that will bankrupt me. Advice? bearman99 228 Posted January 30, 2014 That is horsehockey. My self pay in Neenah WI for a bariatric center of excellence was $18,400. At the very least ask the hospital/surgeons to charge less down to the same cost as a self pay off the street.
kyleebean 209 Posted January 30, 2014 I will definitely talk with the hospital..... Unbelievable. I haven't received a bill yet from the hospital and this is just of the EOB sent from Humana.

goofy219 11 Posted January 30, 2014 Check with your insurance plan. Most have a maximum out of pocket. Mine is $7,000 then my insurance pays the remaining balance at 100%.
lynn2win 142 Posted January 30, 2014 OMG...oh boy now that scares me...I am already using a credit card to pay for the deductible and dr visits....Good luck honey...I hope they take off 124k at least
FitnFabfor2014 358 Posted January 30, 2014 My jaw dropped when I saw that total! Did you speak to them prior to the surgery about what your out of pocket expense would be? Now they know why people go crazy. These insurance companies mess with our sanity!!! OMG I hope that you received that in error!!!
jnlebean 25 Posted January 30, 2014 (edited) Sorry, I'm paying for my surgery out of pocket. What does EOB mean? My husband and I are both getting sleeved, im a revision and our combined total is less than $20,000 Edited January 30, 2014 by jnlebean
K33 87 Posted January 30, 2014 Ask for a line by line accounting for every single charge. You will find mistakes as well as outrageous fees, but stay on them. Keep track of who you speak to, the date and time, and summarize the info after each conversation.
