beyond furious with Humana

Recommended Posts

I received my EOB today from Humana for my surgery in November. Mind you I was in the hospital 4 days and had some serious complications. My part of the bill is 124,950. That's right kids over a hundred thousand dollars. I had a preauthorization, I did everything by the book and now I am stuck with a bill that will bankrupt me. Advice?

That is horsehockey.

My self pay in Neenah WI for a bariatric center of excellence was $18,400.

At the very least ask the hospital/surgeons to charge less down to the same cost as a self pay off the street.

I will definitely talk with the hospital..... Unbelievable. I haven't received a bill yet from the hospital and this is just of the EOB sent from Humana.

It is in your best interest. It raised your blood pressure and caused all kinds of reactions inside your body to get ready to fight..... :D :o

Check with your insurance plan. Most have a maximum out of pocket. Mine is $7,000 then my insurance pays the remaining balance at 100%.

My jaw dropped when I saw that total! Did you speak to them prior to the surgery about what your out of pocket expense would be? Now they know why people go crazy. These insurance companies mess with our sanity!!! OMG I hope that you received that in error!!!

Sorry, I'm paying for my surgery out of pocket. What does EOB mean? My husband and I are both getting sleeved, im a revision and our combined total is less than $20,000

Ask for a line by line accounting for every single charge. You will find mistakes as well as outrageous fees, but stay on them. Keep track of who you speak to, the date and time, and summarize the info after each conversation.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
