Oh light blue touch paper and stand well back!

People will say no in case you swallow it. But my surgeon said no because when you start to chew, it sets your stomach off believing food is coming. If you then don't eat, there's acid that goes unused in your stomach and then you may get indigestion, reflux etc.

You will get lots of people saying they do it and its fine. I just went with doc's advice as what he said made sense.... Good luck with "to chew or not to chew" lol!!!!

My dr said its fine (and helps my sweet fix) as long as I don't swallow it. Haven't swallowed gum since 5th grade when my teacher (a nun in Catholic school) asked me if I was chewing gum.

I chew gum almost everyday. Helps my sweet tooth. and Orbit is the only sf kind I've found that actually pops (yes, I'm that aggravating person that pops her gum)

My doctor said no for the same reason as Indigo's... It was enough for me. But I wasn't a big gum lover to begin with.

The first doc I went to said no to gum and soda FOREVER - this was a the initial introduction seminar - he came in chewing gum and drinking a Diet 7-up then said he was a VSG patient.

Classic "do as I say, not as I do". <_<

Love to chew gum to clear the palate and satisfy the sweet tooth. Also, the changing die can lead to some bad breath. Extra careful not to swallow it, but I haven't accidentally done that my entie life. Not problems with indiestion. I know the doc's and nutritionists instruct to avoid...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
