waaa! stuck, stuck, stuck

Recommended Posts

The good news is that I am down ~65 pounds in six months. Yippee! Alas, I have been bouncing around on the same ~five pounds since Thanksgiving. I have upped my exercise and tried to keep my total calorie intake to about 1000 calories per day. I aim for ~60g protein/day but often fall short. Has anyone else found themselves in a severe (two months and no real weight change) stall this early after surgery? My % weight loss is ~21% of my highest weight (65 pounds/313 pounds). My excess weight is ~145 pounds (highest weight - desired weight = 313 - 170). This means I have lost ~45% of my excess weight (65 pounds/145 pounds). Are these numbers the explanation for why I am stuck? What is the average % excess weight lost or total % lost that is typical for us sleevers?

Scooter, you and I are at the end of the honeymoon! I only lost one pound in January.

You might talk to your nut about refiguring your recommended intake. After losing 65 lbs. your body has different needs now. My nut redid my numbers in December.

Just some thoughts from my own experience if you are interested in trying it:

  • Make Protein a priority, at least 60 g per day if not more. I shoot for 60-70 and make it 95% of the time. I believe it really makes a difference. I have Protein Snacks every day which helps get the grams up (milk, Jerky, protein chips, soy nuts, edamame, nuts, cheese, etc.). You know you need to do it, so just chin up and go for it. :)
  • Reduce calories to 900 - fill in with low cal veggies & salad (which we can eat now)
  • Your exercise may be adding muscle (and increasing weight) - I'm doing strength exercises now and I've gone down a size but no weight lost. I'm *hoping* extra muscle will translate to higher metabolism at some point.
  • Keep measurements of yourself. It helps when the scale isn't very nice to you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
