Protein protein protein!

Recommended Posts

I desperately need suggestions with Protein Drinks. Any recommendations?? I'm going to GNC after work and see what else they have. I have tried 3 different ones and I'm sick and tired of them they make me gag. I'm 5wks out so I know it's very important but for the past 3 days I've only been consuming 30grams when I normally take 60grams a day I don't want my weight loss to stop but I just can't take the Protein I have any longer. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Oh and also how manny calories were you all taking in at 5 weeks? I consume between 260-480. Thanks everyone!!

I think GNC sells Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard -- I like that one a lot. They have all sorts of different flavors. At 5 weeks I was still on puree and very restricted amounts of food. I think I was usually between 400 & 500 calories.

when asking for suggestions on Protein drinks it would help to avoid redundancy if you would specify the ones you have already tried and don't like.

I've tried many and find I don't care for the ones I blend, they have a horrible after taste...I've tried Unjury and Nectar...my fav is Premier Protein Ready to drink in chocolate. I get mine at costco but Sams had it too...you can find smaller quantities at some grocery stores too. I prefer it ice cold! I also am somewhat ok with Isopure which is a Crystal Light type drink, tho lately I can't handle the aftertaste. I got that at Vitamin Shoppe it's in glass bottles and in the fridge!

When I was about 4 weeks out and the thought of another Protein Shake made me want to run over myself with my own car, I tried some Health Wise Hot chocolate (I get mine at mybariatricpantry.com). It has 15 grams of Protein, so not as much as my unjury shake, but wow, did it help me get thru a rough patch and get my Protein numbers back up.

I purchased the Marshmallow hot chocolate and added sugar free peppermint Syrup. It was awesome!

I use Unjury shakes - strawberry, chocolate Splendor and vanilla. I have 5 or 6 sugar free syrups at the ready. I also have added sugar free pudding mix to my shakes - it adds a different flavor.

Also, Unjury has a chicken Soup Protein Shake - it's good. I also purchased Health Wise Soups - again, about 15 grams of protein vs. 20 in a shake.< /p>

Best of luck to you!

I tried this over the weekend and it was pretty good. My friend mixed it with a little bit of vanilla soy milk and Water.

Pricy, but tasted good.

Premier Protein are the best ones I have tried so far. But even those I have a hard time getting down now just because I am so sick of shakes. I ordered Unjury unflavored to try in fruit smoothies. As far as calories, I always worry that I am not getting enough. I average 350 to 450 and I'm almost 6 weeks out. Doctor said as long as I get 60 grams of Protein in then my calorie count is fine. I don't have much energy tho and wondered if it was lack of calories

I'm now opting for unflavored Protein to mix into things. I just can't take the sweet taste of things anymore. Fascinating.

I had my pre op appointment today, and my NUT said the best Proteins to buy are either vanilla or unflavored, because you can doctor those 2 up to basically be whatever you want with the help of crystal light, Jello, Decaf coffee, SF choc Syrup, etc.

But I tried Unjury today, the strawberry sorbet and it was pretttttty delicious.

Premier Protein shakes from costco or Sam's are good. Atkins shakes are good too especially the strawberry. I feel like if I don't have my Protein Shakes I don't get full. Surgery was March 13, 20013 and I still have them every day.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
