I ride my horse every weekend. I will have my sleeve don on 2/3/14. When did you start your regular activities?

Thanks

I am different then most people...I have to wait one more year before I can ride a horse...My bed sore is now closed but not healed and so the riding would tear it open again...I can't wait to ride a horse again...Have not been able in years because of you know...excess weight....

I am so sorry you haven't been able to ride. I started again last year after a 15 year absence. My riding buddy is fearful that I will not be able t ride for 6 months. I hope that I can start riding again in 3 to 4 months.

But you will get back in the saddle again.

You need to talk to your team about when you can do that. Most likely it will not be for a while. Your tender sleeve needs to completely heal before you do that..it will take a few months.....

Unless you were to have complications, I bet you're up on that horse in a really short time, especially if you don't have to saddle your horse, strain or lift anything exceeding the restrictions your doc gives you.

Your doctor should be able to give you a good "guess" -- what a great thing to look forward to!

I will be getting my gastric sleeve surgery in the next couple months. Just wondering how long it took before you started riding again.

I started working out with a trainer at 3 months. My balance was off but that improved quickly. I think I could have ridden at that point safely but I seldom ride anymore.

I had my surgery end of December and was riding normally in April. Including saddling, loading, etc. I felt perfectly OK to ride a month earlier, but most of our trails were still under several feet of snow and I find arena riding too boring. In fact, I scheduled my surgery specifically so it wouldn't interfere with riding. My work partner did the same thing with her hysterectomy....she had hers as soon as my weight lifting restrictions were over so at least ONE of us could do our jobs! Her doctor's official orders were 6-8 weeks out of the saddle and hers was a much harder recovery than my VSG.

Oh yeah, and start looking for saddles...one of my favorite NSVs was going from an 18" seat to a 15" seat! Love my new saddle and love being able to hop up there without having to find a log or rock to stand on.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
