Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield BcBs Requirements Link

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I work for Verizon Wireless, and have Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield (BcBs). My initial consultation was 12/23/13, I was able to see all the specialist and get approval by 1/14/14. The paper work was submitted to my insurance on 1/23/14... I am bitting nails (not literally) waiting to hear back!!!! I am scheduled for RnY gastric bypass on 2/26/14. I am so anxious, nervous, and excited, but my initial worries are the insurance approval. Has anyone ran into problems with Anthem?? Help!!! LOL

I also have BCBS but as a state employee under CovaCare and Anthem BCBS required me to do a 12 month waiting period. Once I completed that, it only took 7 days for approval.

How do I go about getting my PCPs letter. Anything special? Or just ask? I have documentation of my WW participation in the past. Do I need to rejoin?

My surgeons office took care of it. My surgeon ordered blood work. I took that to my primary doctors office... Told him I needed clearance and he ordered additional blood work. I took both blood orders/prescriptions and went to a lab. Two days later I went back to my primary doctors. He gave me the results and said he would fax a letter over. I would stay in contact with your surgeons office they will be a lot of help.

I have BCBS and I have to do a six month weight loss with my PPO.. Which she agrees with me is a waste of time bc I have 6 years of documentation that shows my struggles, however the insurance company wants 6 consecutive months..

Wow that's crazy... I guess it really depends on what company you work for and what insurance plan they buy into...

Did you guys have any stipulations with regard to the nutrition classes? Do I need 30 days between each class?

I had to have one nutrition consult with a certified nutrition, and a preop workshop.

I have BCBS of Ohio (company is located there) and I only had to do one month of supervised weight loss plan. I also had to have a letter from my PCP, attend one support group meeting, have a pysch eval and appt with nutritionist. Just finished everything today, so hoping the rest goes smoothly and quickly.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
