Does it ever go away

Recommended Posts

Do the thoughts of - I am only getting..... Because I am skinny ever go away.

I am 20 months post op and just got a new job. I am so excited , but that damn question of did I get this because I am skinny still pops up I to my head. When I meet new people and become friends the damn question pops up - would you like me if I was fat. I hate this question. I know it is a mind issue, but to the rest of the veterans does it ever go away?

i struggle with this as well all the time seems people are nicer , more open to chat ect then i have to remind my self that i may be more approachable as well when i was over weight i put up walls that are no longer there making it easer to make friends or meet new people!

I haven't gotten to that point yet, actually today is exactly 1year ago I've lost 142lbs & still have another 80-90lbs to go & then finally I can get my tummy done, sorry I got off track, I think you should be proud of all you've accomplished,a nee job is wonderful & yes it's a pretty good chance that your new appearance did help in some way, but it's you that landed the job , you were qualified, not your weight& unless you tell someone no one at your new job will know. We all had this surgery so our life's would change, I say don't question it just enjoy, you well deserved rewards. Good luck on your new job, you'll be GREAT! Peace, Mary

Well, keeping in mind that I'm a guy so I see it from a guy perspective, the first thought that came to my mind when I read your question is "Who cares?" Seriously, who cares? If you like your new job, enjoy the work, enjoy the people you work with and for, find it satisfying and look forward to going to work every day - then you're in the right place at the right time! The old you is history. The new you is right here, right now and right on! You know you worked hard for it. We know you worked hard for it. You earned it. Celebrate every delicious moment of your success and never look back! Congratulations!!

Lol - that felt really good. You guys have a great day!!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
