Starting soft foods a little earlier

Recommended Posts

Started pre op jan 2, surgery jan 13, supposed to be on liquids til jan 30. I am craving the foods on the next level, like cottage cheese, yogurt, etc., so I started on jan 26, 1 meal a day, along with the broth, water, jello, yucky Protein Shakes, and I feel better. I'm reading on this site how so many people are onto soft foods at this point I figured it wouldn't hurt. So tired of broth, water, jello and sugary sweet Protein shakes.< /p>

I would follow your doctor's diet, but I was sleeved on 1/15 and could have yogurt from day 1. Those blended greek yogurts with 12g of Protein really helped. I start purees tomorrow after 2 weeks on full liquids, but again I would call your NUT or Doc and see what they say.

Started full liquids and purees on day 3, soft foods day 10, solid foods day 21. It is crazy how all of our instructions are so different.

I also could have yogurt and cottage cheese the first week. Could barely get down more than a tablespoon, but I can imagine how you must feel!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
