No drain tube after VSG?

Done at Kaiser! No drains! 1 night stay! Perfect recovery!

Same for me! What Kaiser facility did you have your surgery? I had mine done at Kaiser in West L.A. and it was a great experience...minus the gas I had.

Drain here (no biggy. They pinned it to my gown) and 2 days in the hospital. The nurse emptied it 2x per shift. I didn't even know u could have the sleeve as an OP. They took my drain out before leaving the hospital so I never went home with it. It's not normal/abnormal. Just depends on ur anatomy, the surgeon, and ur case...

Good luck!

I was in the hospital overnight and had a drain. My surgery was on a Monday and my drain was In until Saturday. A home health worker removed it. My surgeon uses one all the time. He believes it speeds the healing. It was also comforting to see the Fluid get more and more clear. I knew I was healing and no leaks.

I had my pre-op labs done today and was told no drain for my surgery. They do a barium swallow to check for leaks. I also have an exclusion on my policy and am paying significantly less because I have a hiatal hernia. I know that my surgeon had to send the EGD results to the insurance company for them to cover that portion of the surgery so I seriously doubt they can just "say you have one" to get you into surgery.

Sleeved in Roanoke, VA. No drain, one night and home by noon the next day. Thought I was going to need Hermia repair, but he said it had healed and he didn't have to do it. He did a leak test and cleaned me out good during surgery. No problems. He also did not use a Foley on me. He said Foley's and drains are breeding ground for bacteria. If you don't have to have it, why take a chance. I have done great.

No drain.

The only times I have heard of drains is when there is excess bleeding or a suspected leak.

My JP drain came out the day I was released (surgery on thurs, release on sat). After the first afternoon, there wasn't much at all entering it.

I had a drain in for 3 days and I drained for the full 3 days. It has nothing to do with a leak test it prevents infection. If you saw how much drained you would say you would def want one. When I had my csection with my 2nd child I leaked from my incision, got an infection and had to take antibiotics. It's not fun.

There are some leak tests, especially in Mexico, that are performed using a drain. You drink this blue dye like substance and if it comes out in the drain, you're leaking. Just as drains can PREVENT infection, they can also be a SOURCE of infection so some Drs do not use them.

Two nights; no drain. Leak test at the end of surgery. I really don't think surgeons are "saying" you have a hiatal hernia when you don't. At least Aetna will not pay more for the hernia repair, but as someone else said, my surgeon corrected it anyhow. I knew I had it from pre op testing. If you want to go to Texas, BMI in San Antonio has great surgeons! Mine was Dr. Seger; Dr Duperier also is. "Top Doc". And, as a side benefit, both are very attractive and have super bedside manner. At least that was my experience.

Both Are VERY attractive, but they are excellent :-)

My surgeon doesn't normally put a drain in but during my surgery my spleen bled. I needed a blood transfusion so he put the drain in just to monitor for further bleeding. I also had a foley overnight since they were giving me massive IV fluids. The foley came out the next day and I went home with the drain. He removed it one week later at my post op visit. He didn't warn me or anything that it would hurt...I screamed and nearly passed out!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
