Hello every one.My name is Jennie and I was banded 3/11/03. Im having a hard time losing weight. Im not sure what Im doing wrong. I have lost a total of 30 pounds 10 before surgery and 20 after surgery. Im really getting worried. I have 1.2cc in my band. I go back to my Dr. the end of this mo. for another fill. I feel really bad about my self. Is it normal to slow down this much? Im so freaked out,I dont want to fail. Im so glad I found you all !!!!!!!!!!

Dear Jenny,

You are talking about 30 pounds gone forever! That is great progress. In a year that is 72 pounds. You are losing at the rate of 6 pounds a month. That is within the normal range for the band. You may be doing nothing wrong, but then again if you want to expedite the weight loss consider reviewing the following:

Am I exercising daily?

Am I making the right food choices? Protein first, veggies, then something else if there is room..

Am I keeping the carbs and calories low?

Am I rationing my food quantities? A salad plate eaten slowly should probably be enough

I keep a food journal and monitor every carb, calorie and how much Protein I am getting to make sure that I am losing at the rate that I would like. THe band is just a tool, most of it is still up to you.

-33 and counting

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
