Started weight training, no scale loss :( Need cheering up

Recommended Posts

I'm in my 4th week working out with a trainer 3x week. Whew! Exhausting for an old broad!

Looking for some support here because I'm in a stall on the scale. It's depressing.

  • Have only lost 1 lb. in January. I know intellectually you can't put on muscle and lose on the scale simultaneously, but it's frustrating!!!!! Need to hear comforting things from other people!
  • Have lost inches: after 3 weeks working out lost 1 1/2" in the waist and 1" in the hips. The trainer measures, takes pix, and weighs me every 3 weeks. Won't get another update for 2 more weeks.
  • Lean Body Mass is now at 111 lbs. (before surgery was 100 lbs. LBM and first check up after surgery I was down to 96 lbs.). So it looks like I am actually gaining muscle and losing fat.
  • Strength and energy levels are so much better than before.
  • Clothes fitting well - losing sizes.

I am just so used to measuring progress by the scale. I am a few weeks from my 6 month mark and it's just so frustrating to still be 30 lbs. away from goal.

I was finding it hard to stick with 800 calories a day with the weight training, so this week I have increased it to 900 calories. Doing around 75-80 g of Protein a day. Have also switched up to higher fats (45 g) and lower carbs (45 g). Hope this doesn't sabotage me.

Wah!

Well, I haven't lost a lb in almost a month, so I'm with you on the frustration. I'm also getting closer to goal, so I knew it would be harder - I just didn't expect it to be 1 step forward, 3 steps back :( . I haven't lost any inches either, so you're doing better than me! The scale has become evil to me, as has the mirror.

I am trying to cut down on my calories more (I eat at maximum 1200 a day at nearly 8 months out - trying to get down to 1000) and really pushing it at the gym. I also work with a trainer, but only 1x a week and the rest of the days I either take a class or do my own cardio/strength building routine. I try to burn at minimum 350 cal a day at the gym, sometimes I can get up to 450!

I think you are doing fabulously! I wouldn't worry about a little more fat. Simple carbs are the bigger weight loss enemy, anyway.

Thanks, BK, it's good to hear another voice. I really appreciate it.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
