I was sleeved 1 week ago today. I have no energy at all. I get up to do something, such as putting dishes in the dishwasher and I am completely wiped out. I am a little nervous because I go back to work next week, I am not sure if I will be ready. I have to be honest I am getting my liquids in but I am still having a very hard time getting the Protein in. Has anyone else felt like they have no energy? What have you done to help?

I too was very tired... BUT it WILL improve! Drink your fluids and get in your Protein, and 'the tincture of time' will take care of the rest!

Protein make the body good. check with your Dr or NP to see if you can add some vit B12 into your diet. It helps with energy too.

It took me a full month to feel close to normal. Your Protein will help, so be sure to choke down your shakes. If you can take another week off, do it. If not, sleep when you can, you need the rest!

This is normal. You just had major surgery last week. Your body is going to be healing in the next 3-4 weeks. When I had my hysterectomy recovery was 4-6 weeks. Thankfully, this doesn't take as long, but, your body will need to rest and recover. Remember to get lots of sleep, Protein, and Water. Walk for short periods then rest. Take it easy and time will heal.

Good luck :)

Don't feel alone. It was about 3 weeks post-op before I felt "back to normal" again. There have been lots of threads on here reporting how well and energetic people felt right after surgery, but I wasn't one of them. After all, this is major surgery - no matter how "everyday" the media makes it seem. Your body has sustained a major trauma and needs time to recover. Keep getting your fluids, Protein and Vitamins. Things will get better day-by-day. 7 days post-op, I felt 100% better than I did the 1st 3 days.

To get my Protein in, I added extra Protein powder to my shakes. I my favorite is Premier Protein chocolate and I had some powdered chocolate protein Meal Replacement. I would add 1 scoop of the powder to my shake. It really made a difference in texture and taste - more like silky chocolate milk. And it added 7 grams of protein. :-)

I started off getting my Protein shakes in and then one day, I couldn't stand the thought of another Protein shake so almost a week ago, I started eating boiled shrimp to get my Protein and have had nothing but energy since. Hopefully I can add chicken breast and other meats in a few days. You're lightyears ahead of me though because my problem is that I can't get my fluids in. It helps that it doesn't have to be Water but most other fluids have carbs which is a no-no.

My surgical practice requires a minimum of 30 carbs per day when starting out. Carbs can really help with your energy level. If you aren't getting that much and it is okay with your surgical practice (I know many want people to go super low-carb), maybe try adding in things like light juice, V-8, skim milk, and kefir. But really, it is normal to be exhausted after surgery. It is major surgery and most people feel exhausted for a few weeks, I know I did. Hang in there, keep working on your Fluid and Protein, and it will get better. If you aren't ready to go back to work, don't! I am sure you can get a letter from your surgeon or PCP if your work requires something like that.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
