How long were you on clear Liquids after surgery?

Recommended Posts

Only 4 days, but I only did 3 days because I felt too weak. I started then the full liquids for another 10 days, which is a total of 14 days on liquids. Day 15-28 is my puréed phase. You're doctor must be really strict, that would've been torture for me. Talk to him about it.

Well I'm on my way to full liquids staying the 11th. The past 4 weeks have been easier than I thought. Clear Liquids with Protein Drinks. I can't even finish a 14oz bottle. Gonna have to find better ways of getting my Protein. I've realized through all of this that hunger is all mental. I got past the hunger pains in my first week. I've also learned that food is like a drug, an addiction, and going through this entire first month on all clear liquids made me realize that when I begin to eat that it will be very healthy and probed through the day. Thanks for everyone's replies. Hope all is well

Sounds like you may be a special case, but double check with your Doc. I am 1 wk clear, 2 weeks shakes and cream Soup, 2 week soft food. Week 6 begins the new normal --Hi protein/low carb/low volume.

Soft foods are scrambled eggs, baked salmon, chick salad, low fat cheese.

This program is from these guys --http://www.bmioftexas.com/. They have been doing Bariatric surgery for 7-8 years. These guys are GOOD.

I was on clears for 24 hours in the hospital then started full liquid once I got home.
I do agree with consulting your doc before moving up, but I also think that over a month of Clear Liquids is very extreme ...

I am supposed to be on FULL liquids for 2 to 3 weeks. I am 3 days down now. I can eat cream of chicken Soup, cream of potato, Jello, full flavor pudding, Protein drinks etc. The I get to start the mushies. I have heard that Taco Bell refried Beans are awesome at this stage!!!

I was sleeved on December 30th 2013 and I'll be on clear Liquids until February 11th. I was able to add Protein to the diet on January 14th. I can't go to full liquids until February 11th. Do you feel that's way too long to be on just clear Liquids? In so tired of just broth, Popsicles, Water, and diet juices. I would love some type of variety. Don't get me wrong I have a whole new outlook on how and what to eat. Just wondering how long some others were on just clear Liquids

Clear liquids the day after surgery. Liquid Protein for the next three weeks. Maybe you misread your program? I have not read anything about a program that had so long a clear liquid regimen.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
