How long were you on clear Liquids after surgery?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on December 30th 2013 and I'll be on Clear Liquids until February 11th. I was able to add Protein to the diet on January 14th. I can't go to full liquids until February 11th. Do you feel that's way too long to be on just clear Liquids? In so tired of just broth, Popsicles, Water, and diet juices. I would love some type of variety. Don't get me wrong I have a whole new outlook on how and what to eat. Just wondering how long some others were on just clear Liquids

I was on clear liquids for 24 hours, then on to full liquids for four weeks. I know I would have found being on clears that long very frustrating, but if you are tempted to move on to the next phase without consulting your surgical team, I would strongly caution against that. Deciding to disregard their rules and do things your own way can be a slippery slope. If you don't want to be on clears any more, see if you can consult with your dietician or surgeon and get permission to move on early. That's what I did when I was sick of full liquids and wanted to be on purees. I talked to my dietician, explained that everything was going perfectly and I wanted to get onto purees a week earlier than scheduled, and she looked over my food logs and gave me the green light for that.

Clear liquids for three days and full liquids for nearly six weeks (I'm at 4 weeks now). I agree with Bufflehead on speaking to your Nut and or doc.

I agree with the comments above about talking to your nUt. I was on clear liquids for a day and full liquids for five weeks ( instead of three) due to being re-hospitalized. It can get very boring. I was very excited to move on to puréed foods when able

I was on clear liquids for 2 weeks, then 2 more weeks of full liquids. Wasn't easy but glad it was that way for at least myself.

Good gawd, clears for over a month?! I'm seven days into two week clears and I'm already to gnaw my arm off!

Sleeved on Jan. 14th then liquids for almost two weeks. Now on to pureed but still prefer to take it easy with thicker Soup broths. I did cheat and tried a small bite of steak. BIG MISTAKE. My stomach got extremely uncomfortable. So for now I am happy with the thicker broth.

My health plan will be one week clear and two weeks full.

How much have you lost on four weeks clear? It's got to be boring...but man, you must have dropped some serious pounds!

I was on full liquids from day 1(Soup, greek yogurt, Protein shakes). I Start Purees tomorrow after 2 weeks on liquids. Every surgeon is different, but Clear Liquids for over a month doesn't sound very healthy to me. You have to get your Protein in.

Operation date I was 448. Today I'm at 396. That's 52lbs I've dropped since Dec 30th. My swelling has went away in my legs and I can see it in my face. My Diet plan is 2 weeks clear liquid, 4 weeks Protein Shakes along with clear liquid, 02/11/14 Begin Full liquids, 02/25/14 Begin pureed foods fir another 2 weeks. I'm just scared to do damage to my stomach because my Dr said it can be lethal. I'm just ready for something different. I'm not going back to old eating habits by any means, just need some variety at the very least. I can taste cream of chicken and mushroom in my head. LOL

I was sleeved on January 21st. I had to do clear liquids for 3 day, full liquids for 5 days (which I am still on) and then puree for 4 weeks, then soft foods.

Whatever the liquid plan, sounds like the basic idea is to avoid any actual food for about a month and then the soft stuff. My Doc said at a month the scar tissue should have the staples covered and I should be good to go for both foods and release to the GYM for weight related workouts. I'm anxiously waiting for both.

I started full liquids while in the hospital. For 4 wks, then 4 of soft. Skipped right over puree. Good grief, over a month of clear? U must be starving. Not even Protein shakes? I understand that there's clear Protein drinks but I really needed the milk for sustenance. And cream Soups. If I never c another cup of split pea it'll be 2 soon.

Good luck. I think my stomach would be chewing on my backbone...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
