Sure some folks have, but what does your surgeon and nutritionist say? What are your post-op instructions?

Some people have different post-op diets, doesn't mean one is right and another is wrong, yours is based on what your surgeon and nutritionist believe is right.

Remember, the reason to stay on liquids is to give your stomach a chance to heal. Your lower stomach was sutured to your pouch to keep the band in place. Those sutures are in a very warm and moist environment and more than likely go through a little bit of fat. Fat does not hold sutures all that great. You do not want your muscular (and it is very muscular) stomach contracting and digesting, the more it moves around trying to digest something of substance, the longer and harder it will be for those sutures to heal well.

Do your very best! Remember, in the grand scheme of things, this is how long of a period of time out of your entire life? If you cannot stand it, call the nutritionist tomorrow and ask what s/he thinks, okay?

Good luck and we're here for you!!!

My doctor wanted 2 wks of liquid diet. I made it 10 days. After 10 days, I would have liquified instant mashed potatoes one day, maybe a cream Soup the next....just a little something to help get my extremely low energy kick started. Then at 14 days, I went mushies. He wanted mushies for two full weeks, and again, I made it to about day 10, and introduced full soft foods a little each day to day 14.

If you absolutely feel you're going to break, I'd stick with it just as long as you can...at least 10-12 days.

I understand completely :)

Are you not drinking any Protein? If not, you need to add that in to your diet right now and keep it there. It will help with the cravings.

Hi berry, I had my surgery on the same day you did. I am feeling the same.. Protein Drinks really help the hunger. I am realling needing different flavors. not sweet. I have tried some blenderized soups... they help too..

My doctor told me I could have anything that would fit through a straw....like strained, thin gravy, egg drop Soup, just to name a couple.

Please remember you're healing and the Protein does help with the hunger. Make a smoothie out of the Protein with frozen strawberries and ice..yum!

Check with your doctor and tell him how you are feeling. My doctor wasn't nearly as restrictive as many of them. I was allowed to start mushies on day 10.

Try Campbell's Soup at hand. I lived on the Velvety Potato soup while on my cream soup stage...

You CAN do this. You just have to believe that you can.

i had my surgery on the 19th too, and i never really sat and considered how hard 2 weeks of Clear Liquids would be...2 weeks of living off Water and sf jello...i never thought i would be able to do that in my whole life (and am still wondering..) on the one hand all i can think about is just one bite of mashed potatoes or cottage cheese, but on the other...i really really really dont want to mess up my band and make all this pain and money for nothing... who knows, by friday i may be emailing my nutritionist asking to graduate early...its really really tough. i totally relate.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
