Leaks or other complications.?

Recommended Posts

There is a thread I thought I saw (or maybe an entirely different forum). It was people telling about complications but I didnt see the doctor's names.

How can I check to see which doctors have the greatest rate of leaks or other complications?

Am I thinking of another site that has the users surgeons names listed....

I appreciate your responses.

I came right out and asked my doctor. It just so happens I knew of a recent former patient of his who had a lot of post of complications and I wanted to get clarification on it. He assured me that the patient was on some sort of a medication pre-op that had blood thinner component in it which caused post op bleed. He was also considerably older than myself with many more comorbidities.

You have to be sort of a detective if you want to find this out without asking the doctor directly. If I read of a Mexican Dr having a complication, I would write it down as I researched. Mostly I would search the doctors name and read any post that was related to that surgeon. I also Googled the Dr. name to see what popped up. A lot of people do not list the Surgeon on their profile directly like the above poster so you have to search other posts of theirs to see if it is mentioned anywhere.

I got a short list of about 3 that I would be comfortable with and went from there. I still haven't made up my mind 100% but I am very close. I have been researching about 40 hours a week for 2 months but I tend to over think things at times as well. The problem isn't that there aren't good doctors in Mexico, it's that it's tough to decide between 5 that are equally qualified so you have to go with what's important to you.

Brandy,

Can you post or PM me your short list? I am in the same boat where I am researching and narrowing down options. I have an appointment with my PCP Fri and if he gives me the go, going to move forward.

Thanks

I was just sleeved by Dr Illan on the 17th and I am in a FB group with his other patients or soon to be patients, none of which had any complications. If you are on FB you should request the group and feel free to ask as many questions as you like we are all here to help. It is Team illan

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
