Protein Intake first week

Recommended Posts

Hello I am post op 4 days. I am home and doing well. I'm able to drink water/crystal light no problem but find Protein Shakes harder due to consistency and they get warm. I am suppose to consume 116g of Protein a day. That's like 5-6 shakes depending on amount of protein in shake. Anyone have to consume that much protein and if yes how did you get it all in! Hope everyone is doing well with their goals and post op routines.

Starting Weight 471

Wow... that is a lot of Protein for one day. My surgeon required me to get 64 grams of Protein daily.

I drink Nature's Best Isopure, from GNC. One bottle has 40grams of Protein. There are a variety of flavors. To me they kind of taste like Gatorade G2. I agree with BBdoodle, that seems like a lot of protein.

My surgeon wants me to have between 80 and 100 grams a day. My Protein Shake gives me 27 grams every 2 scoops mixed with 8 oz. of Water. I read somewhere on this site to add an additional scoop with the same amount of liquid and so now I get 40 grams with each shake and it tastes the same. I found this very helpful.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
