Banded 4 days... Liquid phase is killing me!

Recommended Posts

Definitely have been eating a lot of sugar free popsicles and fudgesicles. I guess I was concerned about the amount of times I was eating the liquids. I just had some cheddar Soup with a little garlic powder and it was decent. Very very filling! I think it's all in my head. Most of my "hungry" is head hunger from thinking about food. Definitely comfortable atm after that soup I had. I honestly don't think I could handle anything other than liquids right now anyway my tummy is still in a bit of pain from the surgery

My head hunger right out of surgery was unbelievable!! My mind was just so used to shoveling food in, I think I was feeling lost! When I'd actually listen to my body, I was truly feeling satisfied with what little I was eating.

You're doing great so far, just keep with it. This won't last forever!!

I am three days away from my surgery, and I am starving! This is real hunger, growling stomach and all. I guess I need to be prepared to be hungry for a while.

Hang on, this is why we all needed WLS. Soon, those cravings will be reduced to a fraction of what they are now. We all still have cravings but it's so much more manageable now.

You may want to pay attention to the artificial sweeteners as they tell the brain food is on the way. Maybe fill up on those thick Soups. I loved potato leek Soup which comes in a carton -- brand name Imagine. And I had spicy Soups as needed -- garlic and ginger, chili, miso in broth. That satisfied me. And I was allowed egg drop Soup so I learned how to make that (but if your surgeon gives the thumbs up you can just get it take-out). Do you like smoothies? Yogurt, fruit, blender and enough liquid to make it a full liquid for this phase. My surgeon described full liquids as those which would slide off a plate if it is turned on it's side.

Also I think it is good that you are hungry as this is all about hunger and the dimming of the appetite once the band is adjusted. Maybe take the time to really feel what that is. Sometimes it might be other things besides real hunger and it's good to identify those triggers. We are all emotional eaters here and it is good to take a minute to ask your body what is going on. What does it want, what is it missing? Are you bored, stressed, etc. Take an inventory of those feelings and don't forget to thank yourself for this big step toward better health.

If your stomach is growling, try drinking something with some tasteless Protein powder in it. I used crystal light. It looks funny but, once you get over that, it doesn't taste bad and it does calm those stomach pangs.

It is recommended that you follow you diet plan and surgeon prescription strictly. As for the hunger, yes, you are right. You should be prepared to be hungry for some more time. All the best.

I'm confused about EXACTLY what I CAN have on day 2-7 immediately after surgery. My Dr. Says clear broth, Jello, ice pops, diet hot cocoa, apple juice, nothing with milk until week 2. For the clear broth I was thinking of wonton Soup broth which I like. I see people mentioning Tomato basil soup, potato leek soup, egg drop soup. Wouldn't those Soups be for week 2? Can someone clarify for me? Thanks!

This is the worst 2 weeks ever but its all mental. A couple of months ago, I did a 10 day liquid cleanse and the first 3 days were the worst, but once I didnt focus on hunger, I was able to complete my full 10 days. And that was only drinking Water with lemons, nothing else.

You can do it. Mix up your taste buds and make sure you are getting your Protein shakes in. When you go from eating whatever you want, to a restriction in 24hrs, it gets frustrating and I feel your pain. I wish I would have know of more things to eat during that phase. I lived on gatorade, Protein Shakes and broth.

I suggest you invest in a juicer and nutribullet. I still live off both of these items and make a juice or smoothie every day.

juice some fresh fruti and veggies (for energy), make Protein Shakes (not too thick, no ice) using almond milk, Peanut Butter & banana (for fullness). Or try with fruit but not any with seeds. Eat sugar free popsicles. Also, eat all types of Soups as long as you stay away from the chunky stuff. If you can, make your own Soup to help with the high sodium.

Believe me, you have way more options than you know. You are probably scared and like all of us, not sure what to eat because we are used to soild food.

You should always check with your doctor for these type of questions? Cream soups may or may not be on his list? Egg drop soup is basically broth with an egg blended into it. It's band friendly but it doesn't sound like your doctor would approve? Wonton soup is just broth so that should be fine as long as there are no wontons in the broth?

The liquid phase was a tough one. After going a month on the pre-op diet of Protein Shakes & Protein Bars (which you tasted the Protein part more than anything in both of them to the point where it was almost sickening), and then two weeks of liquids. I had 'fun' for sure! But it got easier as I went along. First few days were the hardest. I did use some 25 calorie 'sugar free' fruit popsicles that were recommended by my surgeon, once a day, and it was probably the thing that helped me the most. Granted I was never a frozen food/etc type of person to begin with, but it made my stomach feel much better!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
