Back pain between my shoulder blades

Recommended Posts

I'm about 4 weeks post op and have been having back pain between my shoulder blades. It happens at different times so I'm not really sure what is causing it. Sometimes laying on a heating pad helps but not all the time. I was thinking maybe it's from laying on the hard table during the procedure. Has anyone else had this problem?

years ago, i started having issues like this (and boy did it ever hurt)

it was my gallbladder..and i had to have mine removed.

that was what i first thought of reading your post...

the best one to answer you and offer advice is your dr.......please call and let them know and i am sure it will ease your mind.....congrats on your surgery

Thanks all! I had read about the the gallbladder too. I'm not experiencing any other symptoms of gallbladder. I did contact the nurse that works with my surgeon and she said she doesn't think that it was gallbladder but I'm meeting with her tomorrow. I haven't lost a lot of weight yet and the doctor did check the gallbladder when putting in the band and didn't mention anything being wrong with it. She is saying she thinks I could be having esophageal spasms since I'm eating thicker food. She told me to try to eat slower and see if that helps. I'll keep you posted on what I find out.

When I don't follow the rules and take too big of bites, my stoma feels "swollen". This will also cause my back to hurt between my shoulder blades. I have no idea how the two are related, but it happens every time in tandem. I was thinking you might still be swollen from surgery, but what your nurse said about the spasms makes sense too. It makes me wonder if that "swollen" feeling is actually spasms. Hmm...

Met with the nurse last night. She told me to take Prilosec and see if that helps the esophageal spasms. I've been feeling better and haven't had the back pain for a couple days now.
