Foods you can't tolerate since surgery

I have heard so many stories of peoples bodies just giving up on certain foods or food groups. (I.e. red meat/chicken, high sugar, processed carbs) My weakness and downfall has always been carbs. I would be lucky if after surgery I just couldn't eat it anymore. What has your food been? Has that been helpful or more of a hindrance?

apple juice is a killer for me. I also tried a tea spoon of iced cream on vacation and it killed me but i was ok with sugar free iced creme. other than that im good. Seems to be sugar is my killer.

My sleeve tolerates just about anything except dense bread and refried Beans. I wish it would be more selective and say no to candy, crackers and popcorn but alas those all go down just fine.

I have tolerated everything I've tried in the past 7 months but my processed/white carbs have been limited to two small crackers, a homemade cookie, and a bite of Yorkshire pudding, all on Christmas day. Other than that I've had no grains, no starchy veggies, and no refined sugar. My guess is that I won't have any problems with any of it except maybe bread. My sleeve seems to be made of steel.

I've not even tried bread, since before my surgery - abstaining seems to be the way for that for me. some fruits are no good for me, apples (unless cooked), citrus hurts, chicken and eggs also seem to 'stick' Crackers go down way to easy :( Ice cream goes down too, but it does hurt my stomach after a while - so trying to steer clear of it nowadays (i'm 15months out)

Plain Water - have no idea why, but it's like swallowing liquid sandpaper.

Greek yogurt - I wasn't a huge fan prior to surgery, but I can't stand the texture. I can have a dollop, like on top of my Mexican bake instead of sour cream, but to eat a sweet Greek Yogurt out of the container, I can't do it.

Other than that, I have been able to tolerate anything I've thrown at my sleeve.

In the beginning you'll have some food "intolerances". Use this to your advantage, because more likely than not, it won't last forever [though everyone is different]. For me, in the beginning I had difficulty with steak, other meats were fine, but my real gut buster post-op was bread, Pasta, and rice. 7 and 1/2 months later I can eat pretty much anything, but I try and avoid simple carbs because if I eat them I won't lose any weight.

I also have difficulty drinking plain Water, even nowadays. It feels heavy when it hits my stomach. So I drink a lot of crystal light and flavored water.

still very intolerant to lactose so milk, greek yogurt, ice cream, most cheeses remain out. makes it kind of hard to get the Protein in:(

I avoid anything with grain in it right now. I have celiac, and I got mighty used to the highly processed gluten free breads, crackers, and more than my fair share of rice. I don't find Pasta, Cereal, rice, bread or crackers helps my nutrition, nor does it help my blood sugar control or weight loss. I am a Type I diabetic, so I have to inject my insulin, and if I eat more carbs, I need to take more insulin. Insulin=fat. It's what non-diabetic bodies release in response to carbs. So no grain for me for a while! But so far, I can tolerate most foods unless I eat too fast or too much. (Then it comes right back up!)

I can't eat scrambled eggs they don't like me any more. Pork chops, high fat ground meat, spinach quesadia from resturant. I can eat fried egg, boiled,and pouched. Bacon, link sausage and bulk, ham, go figure. Had a hard time eating bread at first was able to eat a biscut half,at 4mos out I am now 6 mos.

I LOVE eggs and can still only eat about 1-1.5 eggs scrambled for Breakfast. And iceberg lettuce DESTROYS me (only did it once and it was MISERABLE) but all other greens are fine so far. bread isn't worth the horrible overly full feeling (though I have indulged in small ways a few times, it definitely makes me think better of it -- and was definitely a favorite of my fat self). I opt for a couple crackers with cheese and a snack now, instead when the bread urge strikes. :)

I've had bad experiences with fresh veggies (esp cauliflower, carrots, anything dense), chicken that is over-baked (that was ugly :)), and bread. I haven't had any interest in cake or Cookies.< /p>

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
