Some people!!

A family on my block has a lot of people in and out of the house all the time. Many of them are frequent visitors--relatives, I guess--and maybe I've seen the same people more frequently than others. This is not to say we've ever been introduced, or that I would know any of these people if I met them elsewhere; but I do wave if I catch someone's eye once in a while.

The family that lives in the house is perfectly nice, and I know them somewhat. When the mom first saw that I was losing a lot of weight, she quite nicely asked me about it and I told her my story. That was at least two years ago now.

So this morning, a gaggle of people was leaving their house, and I was down at the curb getting the mail. I didn't recognize anyone but waved casually anyway. One of them--someone who has evidently visited before--actually yelled at me across the cul-de-sac: "YOU LOOK GREAT! HOW DID YOU LOSE ALL THE WEIGHT?" Holy crap! She was with at least five other adults, two or three of them male but none of them anyone I knew. Nice! "Magic," I said with a smile. She laughed and then looked puzzled, so I just said "a lot of hard work" and returned to my house.

What the hell was she thinking? That I would bellow across the road "I HAD WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY, THANKS FOR ASKING, YOU TACTLESS BITCH" :)

Now THAT would have been priceless if you had responded that way!!! You are right though, some people really have nerve, that was really out of line for her to ask you that by yelling across the street!!!!!

Why is it that people can't just compliment you, without asking "how did you do it?" There are some people I will tell, but others I prefer not to, and it's a little uncomfortable. I'd just be happy with-"You look great!" Is that really too much to ask? I agree that you should have really answered her that way--it would have been hysterical, and maybe taught her a lesson in tact!

That was really rude, they seem almost shocked that we could actually lose weight. I agree with Sherry, you should have responded with the "tactless bitch" comment.

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind compliments and even people asking me how I did it. But this was, to me, a perfect stranger; if she'd said only "you look great" to me I would have thought she was whacked. Come to think of it, maybe that's why she added the question--so I wouldn't think she was paying a stranger a compliment for no reason. :)

But the tactless part was that she was yelling to me across the street in front of a group of other strangers! No, I don't mind that she asked. It was HOW she asked that really rubbed me the wrong way. (Of course, I don't know this woman from Eve, so I don't know what would have been a "right" way for her to ask. But yelling was NOT.IT.)

I'm making note of that one!

And I'll alos be remembering Jack's-for those older folks that I feel the need to not swear around.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
