I just had surgery 1/21/14 for 7 days after I am having two lovenox shots a day to prevent blood clots (never had any before) just wondering if this is common for a lot of people? Also I am hating this 2 weeks of no solid food its killing me I don't think I will ever want Soup broth again!

I only had the shots in the hospital, better to be safe I guess. Let me tell you. I bought CANS of chicken broth and after the first day I could NOT stand any broth at all. I will never look at broth the same either  . I can't wait to start soft foods (pureed are not appealing although I love tuna). I am hoping my doctor agrees with me haha.

As for your liquid diet, try diluted, strained cream Soups for variety. I had cream of asparagus, cream of shrimp, cream of spinach, cream of mushroom, and cream of chicken in addition to chicken and beef broths, tortilla Soup base broth, strained French onion, and Chinese hot and sour broth. Added unflavored Protein Powder to all. Unjury Protein cheese sauce was outstanding added to the tortilla soup base. I still drink that!

I had lovenox once a day for 10 days once home(so 12 total including the two shots in hospital) mine gave me some serious serious bruising and quite a bit of pain but only on one side, the other side was almost normal! But once I stopped pain slowed and was gone within a week! Doc said I was a rare case! I'd gladly take it again with such risks of blood clots!

I've had many surgeries and Lovenox is pretty standard post-op. I did it twice a day for 7 days, the same as you did. As said above, not a big deal for the peace of mind of clot prevention.

I've also had many surgeries and I agree that Lovenox is pretty standard post-op. I did once a day for 10 days once home from the hospital, and I took every one of them.

You are lucky! I've been on liquids for three weeks and have two more to go (although I am allowed LF/SF yogurt and FF/SF pudding). I can't wait to have other options besides yogurt, pudding, strained Soups, Protein drinks, and Water.

When I had surgery they had me do two lovenox shots for 1 month so 7 days isn't bad!

I was on lovenox 2x a day for 4 week after surgery. It was such a pain in the butt. I was only on liquids for 1 week after surgery then pureed for 3 weeks and soft for 4 weeks. I was able to start full regular diet week 9.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
