Got completely deflated today

Recommended Posts

I've been banded since May of 2012. I had 7.4 cc in a 10 cc band since last January. Friday I went to the dentist and found out that I have a dying nerve under a crown. The next day my face became swollen I started to have a very hard time getting my antibiotic down. Last night it was stuck for an hour. Then it seemed like fluids weren't going down and I'd bring it up. Met the doc at the ER today and she totally deflated me. Did an X-ray and thankfully no slip in the band. Doc is thinking my band may have become tighter due to the inflammation going on in my face from my abscesses tooth. I'll go back to the doc after my root canal for a refill which will be after 2/5/14. Doc also gave me IV fluids because my labs showed I was dehydrated. Feels good to be able to drink fluids without it hurting and coming back up. Anyone else have a similar situation with their band?

Are you saying your band all of a sudden started to act this way the same time you found dental problems? An infection?

That's interesting...

Wow, be careful with that. I've seen people who've had to be put on the vent to help them breathe because of accessed tooth.

I'm not an MD but I am a Dental Professional and that's really reaching for answers to say the inflammation caused by an infected tooth caused your lap band to give you problems. I'd be more inclined to say either the internal BAND scaring or The dehydration is what caused the issues with getting stuck.

Good luck with your Root Canal and when they pur the saline back in your band.

Sandy M that person that needed to be put on a vent because of a Dental abscess either had a pre- existing condition OR they waited Way too long to get treatment YIKES!

No précis ting condition, but definitely waited to long. People don't realize though how quick they can get in trouble respiratory wise. I've taken care of more than a few medical emergencies between ICU and ER (I've worked both) that started as dental.

Well, I don't understand why my band would suddenly be tighter when my last fill was a year ago. I may never know, but I'm just thankful to be able to drink fluids and to be able to take my antibiotic. Lol

I was told by my PCP that dental health problems can affect your whole body and that's why it is so important that you go for regular check ups and to take care of your teeth.

you have done all the right things. your stuck antiboitic likely caused your stoma to swell. you need to drink a lot while fighting a infection so i think everyone has done the right thing. please feel better soon.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
